^ District 9 was ok. I'd watch it again but I wouldn't own it.

Wow. I didn't see that coming.

I just finished District 9. Decent story telling. So so story.

Yeah, I was able to suspend disbelief enough to enjoy it.

Speaking of suspension of disbelief... watched How Do You Know last night. Wow. You don't often see a cast this good in such a stinker. A small handful of interesting and/or funny scenes drifting through a boring matrix of how-do-we-connect-this-stuff to make a movie. I expected much better out of James L. Brooks. The premise was actually pretty good but holy cow the execution was awful. And Reese Witherspoon as a world class softball player? Nope. She was actually less believable than Owen Wilson as a MLB pitcher. Extra points taken off for a movie title that's a question. Without a question mark.

Best of the Best I and II
--First one was a pretty good late 80's early 90's martial arts tournament movie. The second one was ok but it felt odd to have a revenge flick the way they did it.

Kickboxer 3-5 NF Stream

First one is still the best but I have that on BR.

2 was not available for stream.

3 was pretty solid. But, really didn't fit into the overall theme from the first one.

4 was more of a revenge flick. Ok but not great.

The 5th one was really stretching it for making a movie. The kickboxing wasn't bad but the movie just didn't have IT.

Best of the Best I & II / NF Stream
I is a great tale of some North American/ US Kickboxers coming together as a national team to take on some Koreans. It has James Earl Jones, Eeric Roberts, and Chris Penn.

The 2nd one was kind of suspect on plot. The cast is back in the US and Chris's character ends up getting into a underground boxing ring and __________. The two other guys seek revenge.

RE: The movie thread
Tron / dvd

Tron Legacy / BR

I liked the original Tron. I thought Legacy was a sequel done right. Although I do feel the later had a definite Matrix/Ghost in the Shell feel to it.

Harry Potter: Half Blood Prince / dvd
Still amazed they are able to keep up the quality of movies over all the sequels.

The Scorers Apprentice / dvd
--Nic Cage flick. I thought it would be kind of suspect but after watching it, it wasn't half bad.

The Fast and the Furious I - IV / dvd

I liked each one for different reasons but I do think the first one and the 3rd one ( Tokyo Drift) were the closest to "car movies." It seems that 2 (2 Fast 2 Furious) and 4 ( Fast and Furious) were more crime capers where cars were needed. It looks as though Fast Five will be going the crime caper route as well. Not sure how I feel about Paul Walker's character transition over the movies out so far OR the over-building of how big a crime lord Toretto actually is.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Season 1 / dvd
Good anime sci-fi action thriller. Definitely above board for a cartoon in terms of action, plot, and acting.

A Team: Season 2.. / NF stream
--I loves me some A Team

Blood and Bone / dvd
A Michael Jai White action movie. He is nasty in this. I think they could have made the movie better had they put a little more money into it but as is the action/martial arts is pretty sweet.

Spawn/ dvd
The live action movie was pretty good IMO but I think the FX in it was low budget in some areas.

Planet 51
Seems like TriStar took seriously the recipe for Pixar's success: have a solid story and throw in some references as fare for adults to keep them interested too. I think they really tried w/ this movie, but in the end, the story was pretty lame, and potty jokes don't really serve adults. My 8 y.o. liked it, but even he didn't mind that we deleted it from the DVR.

Iron Man 2
I was excited for this, as IM 1 was surprisingly good. But it got mixed reviews so I waited. I liked the story, lotta good developments w/ the gov't getting more involved, Tony being sick, and his father's role being brought out. But, there were WAY too many plot holes. Sure Tony got sick, but why would his father anticipate that? Who was expecting the arc-reactor to be installed in a human body? And how does SHIELD have a (poorly named) treatment ready in days, when Stark can't find one after searching for months? BTW, just how long did it take all of this to occur? Because 7 days is rushed, even for a superhero. Finally, just why is the NORSE god of thunder in the NM desert?! Why not have him in...Norway?

Stark's dad didn't envision him being sick. He didn't have the tech in his lifetime to make the Arc Reactor small or to harness the power of that new element needed to run a mini Arc reactor. Stark, probably knew that his son was smarter than he was and with the tech that would come about in his lifetime he could do what he did with the Arc Reactor / harnessing that new element. I think the older Stark told Nick Fury to give him that case once Tony was ready to work for Shield.

My only beef with Iron Man 2 is they didn't make as quality of a movie as the first one. I still don't know why they got rid of Terrance Howard for Rhodie. The guy who ran Hammer seemed like comedic overkill.

RE: The movie thread
margot at the wedding i love noah baumbach's films. his characters are human, there aren't any hero's or heroines. he's got a pretty fresh style of film making, which ultimately leads to the audience hating the characters. in my opinion, it's because they aren't used to seeing characters portrayed this way. formulaic he's not. this is my second go round with margot. an exercise of unresolved petty familial differences which escalate, escalate, and then things sort of get resolved but not really. i wouldn't recommend this film, even though i think it's great. i just know people are probably going to hate it.

conviction i'll see anything with sam rockwell in it, my favorite actor. pretty tame and boring, inspiring with a cup of salt. a true story. a woman sets out on an 18 year journey to see her wrongfully convicted of murder brother set free. with all legal opportunites exhausted, she puts herself through law school whilst endangering her marriage and two young sons. maybe i'm just cold hearted.

atlas shrugged pt 1 read the book instead, it's f*cking awesome. if you've read the book and you're like me, you'll want to see it and won't complain about the sh!tty amateurish of the endeavor. the production is of the category straight to dvd, the acting was something out of b-movie outtakes, the characters left room to be desired, the cgi (i'll cut em some slack here) was laughable, and i can't wait for pt II. i could barely put the book down and was upset i had to finish it, so this will have to do.

I am really tempted to do the same.... I got a feeling some of the background stuff is important to the overall story arc that they haven't been able to put into the movies.
