RE: The movie thread
Mission Impossible / dvd
--I liked the first one, it felt the most "mission impossible" of the three that are out now. But the train tunnel action scene was way over done. MI2 had the action right but it didn't feel like a "Mission Impossible" movie. I did like Anthony Hopkins line about mission difficult vs. mission impossible though. The third one had the best villain--but, again, it didn't "feel" like a "mission impossible" movie.

RE: The movie thread
Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs on dvd.
--I think what makes these movies so good is the acting, characters, and the chemistry of the casts
*even though I also liked the earlier version of Red Drago, aka Manhunter.

*********

The Rite
--pretty good exorcism movie IMO. A lot of the characters seemed eerily similar to The Exorcist.

RE: The movie thread
Gamer / NF Stream
--Not bad but I think they could have streamlined some things.

Black Belt Jones / NF Stream
--Jim Kelly, "nuff said"

The Eagle / theater

--Pretty good but not what I was expecting. I think if I knew more about the history of "the eagle" as far as the Romans go along with their invasion plans in England I would have enjoyed it more. Pretty good fight/battle scenes

V for Vendetta / dvd
--Good movie.

Reign of Fire / Net Flix Stream
--Not bad...

Via Net Flix Streaming:

Hell Boy: Blood and Iron and Sword of Storms
--Both pretty good although I liked Sword of Storms a lot more.

Police Academy 1-4
--1st and 4th were great. 2 sucked. 3 could have been.

Superman/Shazam / NF Stream

Not sure what the deal was with this title cause it was good BUT it was a 3 part series in which for the just over a hour of movie you get Superman and Shazam in a story about how Shazam became Shazam, then you have a tale involving The Spectre and I was not sure if this guy was a good or a bad guy, then you have the third part which is a Green Arrow tale.

Superman / Batman Apocalypse / NF Stream

Pretty good IMO. Darkseid is a bad motha... Disliked how they had an anticlimatic battle so close to kind of resolving the main story so to speak.

on dvd:

The Bourne trilogy.
Great movies IMO.

Internal Affairs III
* the Internal Affairs trilogy was the basis for the movie The Departed. The first IA and The Departed are eerily similar however in III they get into a lot of double and triple agent stuff.

Speed Racer / dvd

Say what you want but this move was done as well as a live action version could be done.

I liked it quite a bit. I thought the action scenes were too choppy, but the concept was good, and the dialogue and acting were very good, all things considered.

RE: The movie thread
I tend to agree with Dr Torch. The CGI part of it was poorly done, and the editing did make it seem like it was chopped into bits that you had to reconstruct mentally. But on the whole, Speed Racer wasn't bad at all...

That was pretty good. FWIW, I like the Justice League stuff. They give all the big boys their deserved screen time but also give the right amount of love to the smaller characters.

I notice that how many movies are coming out of Hollywood that are based on comic books or video games. Doesn't anyone in Hollywood have an original idea of their own any longer? A few, perhaps. But very few, and very far between...

Honestly, I think the fact that special effects have gotten to the point they are now is why you are seeing so many super hero movies now. They can pull off what the comic books promised without it looking cheap.

I think that's only part of it. Hollywood is very resistant to change or chance. They always have been. All of the improvements made over the years in film have come from the edge, away from Hollywood...

There is too much money involved right now. I mean if you drop x$ in the movie and it fails you are hurt. The business model pretty much determines that sequels and or known properties are where to start.

Blade Runner --theatrical cut / NF Stream
--While I do like the movie and find the story interesting somehow it feels slow to me. I see a lot of borrowing The Matrix and Ghost in the Shell did from this movie.

Sex, Lies, and Videotape / dvd
--a not quite erotic thriller. Probably more of a mental movie than the title suggests. Definitely would spark some conversations amongst couples I'd assume.

I saw the 2nd half of "Paul Blartt: Mall Cop" last nite (yeah, that's how committed to film I am). I expected it to be amusing, and it was, even the wife laughed.

But, what caught me off guard was the fact that it was an homage to Die Hard! 04-rock

I love it! Die Hard is an all time classic, and this was a nice tip of the hat.

I couldn't watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It was too stupid, even for me, and I like stupid humor...

Hamlet 2

Steve Coogan should have won a best actor Oscar for it. I'm not kidding. His performance is perfect.
