RE: The movie thread
Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society / dvd
--A pretty good entry and again a deeply philosophical entry in the series on the overall plot and The Major's own issues.

Total Recall / BR
--Great Sci Fi movie.

X Men III / tv
--it was on so.... My least favorite of the first trilogy even if I thought the ideas were good.

X Men 2 / BR
--A classic IMO. I really liked the Wolverine origin angle to it.

Spiderman: Far From Home / BR
--A solid sequel, but that ending with Fury.... lol or hmmm

GI Joe: A Real American Hero / The Revenge of Cobra / dvd
--Ran across some youtube video the other day of a guy reviewing the toy line during this era, and with his mix of video clips from the shows in the video I was inspired to watch the first two 5 part episodes.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows / BR
--A solid follow up to the first one. Hopefully the 3rd entry will be good.

Bad Boys 1 & 2 / dvd
--Wanted to catch up on the movies before the 3rd. I still haven't gone to see that 3rd one yet though. 1 was a solid first go and I liked the 2nd more but that extended end with the island raid was too much.

John Wick 1-3/BR
--just wanted to.... so bad ass with the gun fu, kung fu, and pretty much any kind of fu you want to throw in with it LOL.

Captain Marvel / BR
--just wanted to. I still think its one of the weaker MCU movies though.

Total Recall / BR
--Bro pick.... One of my favorite sci-fi movies.

So I caught Captain Marvel on a flight recently. I wasn't bad, but think it suffered from the desire of wanting to put Captain Marvel in the MCU but lacking a really good story to tell about Carol Danvers.

Brie Larson mostly works, especially with the 90's backdrop. The story falls apart though at the end as the hero's trial is just of her overcoming her doubt. I found the payoff unsatisfying and with her OP powers just makes the end of the movie boring.

RE: The movie thread
Been watching some things in my digital library and anything that catches my eye:

Zookeeper (Digital)- Not exactly a blockbuster, but funny in it's own right.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop (Digital)- Again, not that great of a movie but good for mind numbing slapstick humor.
Fighting with My Family (HULU)- I liked this one. It's based on a true story about a girl from the UK getting a shot at the WWE and the hardship involved.
Here Comes the Boom (Digital)- Possibly one of my favorite MMA movies. Good laughs and a little heart warming.
Minions (Digital) and Despicable Me 1-3 (Digital)- The kid and I went on a binge this weekend and watched the yellow guys. Every time I watch them I find something funny to laugh at.

I don't know enough about the character to get into all of that part but I think the set up of her origins gets into another big MCU kind of thing (ala Infinity Stones/Gauntlet) if they get into that whole Secret Invasion thing (of which I have only read about in passing so I don't know much about it).

To me though, it fell into the less interesting MCU movies ranking. That said, I do agree, that her powers seem OP to the others...

RE: The movie thread
The A-Team/BR
--just wanted to. I loved the casting in the movie and to me, they made a better origin story than the tv show. That said, I'm still more of a fan of the tv show.

Total Recall (new)/BR
--I still prefer the original movie but what I did like about this was its setting in a more realistic environment. Also, from what I gather, the story in the new one is closer to the actual book. I think they were more obvious with the tells in this one than the original one. I liked the casting as well.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (og)/BR
--I had gotten the DC BR Trilogy box set a while back but my last viewing was this on NF. I love the trilogy but I still think the first one comes off more self contained and 2 and 3 feel more connected. I really appreciated the compression artifact-less version of the movie. I tried to watch it with the dubbed audio and had to change it back, the voices were too off for me to like so I went back to original audio with subtitles.

Suicide Squad/BR
--Getting back in the flow before Birds of Prey. I thought the casting was decent but you could tell that Margot Robie and Will Smith were the focal points. Personally I think Robie sold herself as being HQ and that got her BoP.

Birds of Prey/Theater
--Again, Robie steals the show as HQ. I really like the personalities and the craziness this movie has. IMO, Huntress and Black Canary seem really under developed in terms of their deals within the scope of the movie--like their main tie to what is going on gets revealed really late. I do agree with my brother though, the movies comes off as a HQ movie and not a BoP movie. I think they should have made it just HQ with whatever add on title they wanted to add.

How did you feel about the switch made to a Black Canary?

How did you feel about the switch made to a Black Canary?

"The switch" ? I'm vaguely familiar with her from the animated Justice League version and the other incarnation I am more familiar with is the one from Arrow. But, Arrow kind of did a lot of flipping back and forth on her as Black Canary and then White Canary(?)--not sure if that was because of actress contracts or whatever... And I would say I am not up on all things Birds of Prey.

RE: The movie thread
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2-4/BR
--Finished the first one a week or so ago and decided to go ahead and finish out the original trilogy. Then, just to cap it off, the 4th one. A good series IMO.

Sonic The Hedgehog/theater
--Pretty good IMO. Jim Carey was fantastic.

Mortal Kombat, MK Annihilation, MK Legacy/BR
--Was in a video game movie mode after watching Sonic. I think the first one and Legacy are the best two. Annihilation isn't bad but one wonders what happened after the first MK where they basically gutted the cast aside Liu Kang and ____ and went back at it, especially when the first one ended like a sequel would be coming.

Dr. No/dvd
--After reading that rumor article tied to No Time To Die I had to rewatch it. Probably one of my favorite Connery Bonds.

The Expendables 2/BR
--Just a bad ass action movie.

RE: The movie thread
From Russia With Love/dvd
--Kind of just went on the Bond#2

Trading Places/dvd
--wanted to watch a comedy... such a top tier movie

Minority Report/br
--One of my favorite Tom Cruise movies. I kind of like the twist at the end.

Universal Soldier/br
--went back to a classic. Van Damme and Lundgren just work well together.

Time Cop/br
--Just wanted to watch it. I liked the story in it.

Onward/theater
--A pretty good movie with the story they wanted to tell and the characters and universe they created. But, the end end kind of bummed the movie for me.

Black Panther/BR
--just wanted to watch it.... one of the better Marvel movies.

Executive Decision/dvd
--wanted to watch a classic action movie LOL. Pretty good all star cast in it too.

Murder at 1600/dvd
--a pretty good murder mystery. Not a bad cast either.

RE: The movie thread
GI Joe The Movie (animated)/dvd
--nothing like cartoon sci-fi bacteriological warfare. That said, the whole Cobra-la story line was kind of a turning point for me in enjoying GI Joe cartoons... it was the step to far on sci-fi for the series.

Clear and Present Danger/dvd
--Just kind of wanted to watch a classic action drama movie. What I liked most about it was the play on the drug cartel leaders and assistants versus persons involved at the highest levels of the US government and "how the game is played" line of thinking. Their scenario is probably more real world that most want to believe.

Patriot Games/dvd
--Well, Jack Ryan did go against the IRA. That's Irish right? one of my St. Patrick's day views. I think as much as Harrison Ford was the star that without Sean Bean being a good villain the movie wouldn't have come off as good.

Ronin/dvd
--Another IRA involved movie I really loved this action movie. Had some really great lines and a all-star cast.

Friday the 13th VII / dvd
--I always thought this was one of the strongest movies in the series with the telekinetic girl and the conspiring doctor set at Camp Crystal Lake.

Friday the 13th VIII / dvd
--OMG, Jason Takes Manhattan is bad, even for the series.

Jason Goes to Hell / dvd
--I actually really like this one. I think the bounty hunter angle is what makes the movie work well.

Mission Impossible II/BR
--Nothing like a virus spreading biological warfare plot to watch during these times. As for the movie itself, I did appreciate its more action orientation than the first MI, but it also felt less MI inspired than the first one.

Grindhouse: Planet Terror/Death Proof / BR
--Planet Terror is so bad ass in the effect they wanted to go for. I do think Robert Rodriguez went over the top with the aging the film print style but the over the top cheesy horror movie aspect of it made it kind of cool. As far as Death Proof goes, I liked how that guy got his thrills with the first batch of girls, but the second set wasn't having it.

RE: The movie thread
No Way Out / AXISTv
--Never heard of it before, but with the all star cast it had, it sure felt like I should have. I really enjoyed the plot and the fact that once he realized the evidence coming to light could somehow be twisted on him was a cool idea.

Good Will Hunting/Showtime
--I caught it about 20m in but finished it because I hadn't watched it in forever. All star cast here too. I think it gave off a good message of don't let yourself hold yourself back... and you know, it might not be your friends that want to see you held back when you are actually special, they'd wonder why you aren't doing more with what you have.

Moonraker/dvd
-One of my least favorite Bonds even it did have some stuff I liked. The release of those spores was an ode to Coronavirus LOL.

Iron Man 1-3/ BR
--I loved one, I thought 2 was a solid follow up with a cool backstory, but the 3rd kind of ticked me off. It ticked me off because of two things, one) I had seen the Extremis story line play out in a different manner in an animated series and I liked that better, and two) The crap with flipping the Mandarin...

The Avengers Infinity War/BR
--Just wanted to, even if I did want to start with End Game. I am amazed they pulled this collective off as good as they did still.

Batman, The Animated Series/BR
--Completed it within the last week. Great series to back through with. I got that BR Box Set.

Memento/dvd
--This movie is still a mind job for me, and after watching it again for the first time in at least 10 years I still found new nuggets that give off clues to the overall story. My own version of the dvd is the DLX one with the psych ward stuff. I still need to finish solving it for all of the special features. Its such a unique story telling technique and a unique premise that I find the movie fascinating with how it reveals plot points. I still wonder though, if it had played out chronologically would it have been as interesting.

Three Kings/dvd
--First, man, whomever did this dvd didn't do a good job with the mastering quality. I hadn't watched it in a while but I thought it played out differently. I knew the three main actors made it an all star movie but in watching it again, I saw a lot of other actors that i recognized. Arguably, I liked Clooney better in The Peacemaker for him in a military role.

RE: The movie thread
Dr. Strange/BR
--One of my favorite Marvel movies. I think only Mads' character got underused. I think this might have needed a #2 before Infinity War but...

Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker/BR
--After multiple viewings, I like it more than I initially did but I still have a few complaints. With none of the previous 8 movies even getting into Force Clones, just a unnatural power the Dark Side has, how was that the solution for Palpatine? In hindsight was he taking the cloning tech for himself that they got into in II? Is their some chapter or element from the book canon that explains this?

Black Lightning S3/Netflix.
--I just wrapped this last season up. The season was pretty good and I liked a lot of the plot lines and subplots they got into. While not 100% familiar with all the DC canon, I kind of wonder why the CW has done so far only one tie in with BL to their "Arrowverse" shows. It seems like these figureheads in the Justice League, if they go that way, would have a little more interaction.

Tiger King/ NetFlix
--Yo.... that has been one of the most intoxicating shows I have ever watched. Sometimes reality can be stranger than fiction.... and it kind of felt like I was watching a plot for Wild Things 4 once they started digging into that Florida lady.

Goldfinger/dvd
--To honor Honor Blackman. A great Bond movie.

Tomorrow Never Dies/dvd
--I just needed something about devilish media to watch ..... and involving China.

The Passion of the Christ/dvd
--An Easter ritual of mine is to watch this over that weekend.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade/br
--I get hate on this but I liked the I and II better.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull/br
--While I liked it, I felt some of the really odd cgi in it kind of hurt the cinematography.

Lord of War/dvd
--Pretty cool movie about gun running.... and its implications...

Troy/BR
--just kind of wanted to watch it again.

Transformers (G1) S3 & 4/dvd
--Just wanted to... While there were some good episodes, to me the series died after TF The Movie/S2 of the show.

Training Day/dvd
--Man, such a great movie and Denzel was such a bad ass.

Deep Cover/dvd
--One of the best theme songs from a movie with Snoop and Dre killing it. Fishburne(sp?) was such a bad ass in the movie. Goldblum(sp?) was a interesting character because he was like halfway down till he killed that guy, then he got even more into"the business" so to speak. My rewatching it was caused me to think more about those beginning scenes where Fish was talking to the head cop and how that went down with how the cop picked him, and then is hesitancy to commit to going after the top guy. Especially with how the movie ended...I have no idea why I didn't remember or feel that way till I saw it this last time. It was foreshadowing.

Eraser/dvd
--Not one of Arnold's best movies but it had a lot of the traits you like from his movies. Vanessa Williams was also pretty solid.

LotR: The Two Towers / BR
--Just kind of wanted to.

Young Frankenstein/dvd
--Just a fun comedy to watch.

The Negotiator/dvd
--Sam Jackson was so clutch in this movie. Spacey was good too, and the sub-casting was pretty good.

National Treasure 1 & 2/dvd
--Such great movies with how they set up the history to fit the story/conspiracy they wanted to do. I still think I prefer 2 overall over 2 though.

Basic Instinct/dvd
--So, who really did it? LOL.

Blade Trilogy/BR
--1 was a solid start, 2 was a BAD ASS MOVIE, and 3 felt like a cash in to what was a series on an ascending trek.

RE: The movie thread
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Rise of the Skywalker, and Revenge of the Sith / BR
--This is how I celebrated May the 4th Be With You and Revenge of the 5th. Empire is solid and the least f*d up of the SEs of the original trilogy. Jedi still feels like redoing A New Hope retold with different angles--and my theory feels backed up by magically having Death Star 2. RotS isn't a bad movie but the whole Force Clone thing seems concocted, the dyad seemed concocted between Kylo and Rey... and it had some other minor issues like a ground invasion on the deck of a Star Destroyer LOL. Revenge of the Sith isn't a bad movie but it suffered from having to close up lots of story loops to tie in to how A New Hope begins and the revelations made in Empire. I'm still amazed that if my man tells you to your face the deal and you still fall for it its your own fault--then again I also feel the Jedi should have been more forthcoming with him too.

Robot Chicken S9/dvd
--man, I needed that comic releif. Some good sketches

Prince of Persia/BR
--Just wanted to watch a fantasy movie

Conan(new)/BR
--Momoa does a decent job of being Conan and the story isn't bad. What the movie lacks is "the thing" the original 2 had.

Conan the Barbarian & Conan the Destroyer BR
--Ahh, old school Arnold action. Pretty good restoration on the old movies on BR, pretty darn good special effects for the time. I kind of like Destroyer over Barbarian but not by much. I still find it interesting about each character asking each other what gods do you pray to... and the answers

A View to a Kill/dvd
--After catching Grace Jones in Destroyer, I was like let me go back to the Bond with her in it. AVtaK isn't a bad Bond and I liked the characters of Zorin and May Day...and given its release date, the microchip angle makes sense. Tanya Roberts does a respectable job in her role.

Diamonds are Forever/dvd
--still never overly felt this particular Bond

Never Say Never Again/dvd
--Its not bad and I kind of like the villain and Basinger. It just feels weird when you line up this and Thunderball.

Thunderball/dvd
--One of my top Bond movies.

Live and Let Die/dvd
--One the one hand I love the voodoo Blaxploitation angle of the movie but it somehow felt like it was done on the cheap. Yaphet Kotto was the man though.

The Man with the Golden Gun/dvd
--As much as I like the plot and some of the action in spots, I think what killed me was the game arena.

Robot Chicken S8/dvd
--Good stuff.

South Park S21/BR
--Good stuff.
