RE: The movie thread
John Wick 3 / theater
Whoa.... the movie makes my T10 badass action movies of all time. There was nothing not badass about it. The story was a pretty good way to pick up after 2. I think my only gripe right now as the franchise sits at 3 installments is what is the deal with the High Table, the Continental, and what exactly did Wick do to get himself out of it the first time. I mean, with the way the ties between all of these are set up, he must have done some truly next level sh* to barter his way out.

********************

Wow... so out of date ... so....

** THE MCU Movies I own / BR
--prepped up for Endgame. Mainly wanted to hit some highpoints of story points and post watching Endgame I went back to a few for some background as well.

Star Wars / BR
--Ep 1 -- 20th anniversary ya know
--The Last Jedi --wanted some rewatch when the trailer for the new one hit
--Solo -- for that Chewie homage
--Ep 4, 5, and 6 for more Chewie love

Terminator, Terminator Genysis / BR
--for time travel discussion based on events of Endgame

Back to the Future II / BR
--Time travel discussion based on events of Endgame

The Hateful Eight SE / NF
--Decided to watch the 4 part episodic format Tarantino put out on NF for the movie. I honestly haven't come across new material like it is supposed to have for this Director's Cut of the movie or I haven't noticed it if it has had some new content. I've completed Episodes 1-3 so far.

Wanted/ NF
--I liked the original enough to rewatch on NF. Not a bad action movie but it never captured my mind enough for me to own it. Decent talent pool of actors though.

John Wick & 2 / BR
--Reupping my memory banks for checking out #3 at the theater soon. I like a lot of elements in the first two even if by mind the botched some of the fight choreography.

Alien/BR
--just wanted to watch.

Arrow S8/NF
-- First two episodes tonight since I saw it just hit NF. Wow... they are going full on action movie route this time. Honestly, that is what I kind of like about the series. It is less fluff than Supergirl, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome/BR
--just wanted to.

X Men Days of Future Past/BR
--One of my faves in the new XMen movies. Really, in this new line of films, only Apocalypse kind of underwhelmed me. Hopefully they do Dark Phoenix better than what was told in X Men III The Last Stand because that one just wasn't that good.

The Dark Knight Rises/BR
--just wanted to.

Kindergarten Cop 2/ NF
--man.... this one was a struggle. I mean, yeah Dolph plays Arnold's equivalent to the story well enough, but the movie just felt underdone.

The Hunger Games Catching Fire/BR
--Still not bad. I think the whole story arc and movies were pretty good.

Avengers: Endgame -

It was rewarding. I don't think it stood a chance of topping Infinity War, especially knowing that Time Travel was going to used to solve everything. Instead the Russo Brothers chose to give to reward to fans with great moments for their most beloved characters.

John Wick 3 -

The middle fight scene with Halle Berry was a little long IMO. Honestly leaving NYC was an unnecessary distraction from what otherwise was a non stop action fest. Loved the little easter eggs throughout the movie as well.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix -

HOT GARBAGE!!! Honestly, this story can't be told in two hours and Sophia Turner is a terrible Jean Grey. Somehow manages to be worse than Apocalypse. This will leave such a bad taste in everyone's mouth that the MCU won't be able to use mutants for a few years.

I thought DP was better than Apocalypse and XIII. Not sure what is the deal with the XMen movies though, somehow the 3rd ones always go wrong LOL.

Saw Toy Story IV with the kids this weekend.

They should have stopped at three.

4 was pretty good man....I thought they muddled the end though with Woody and Bo....

Good movie. The only issue was taking too much time and money. Well trained folks would have gotten in and out.

This is good.

I've tried to watch this and I keep falling asleep even though I think the cast seems solid.

RE: The movie thread
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse / NF
--it was on NF so why not. I liked it, just waiting on the BR to go cheap to buy it.

Toy Story 1, 2, and 3 / BR
--I loved all 3. Thought the best villains were 3 and 1. 2 suffered from too much Star Wars references.

Toy Story 4/ theater
--Solid follow up but I kind of felt wanting from the end... like they didn't end it properly.

Spiderman Far From Home / theater
--A pretty good sequel and I like a lot of the tie ins but I somehow felt Mysterio wasn't evil enough.

Rambo II-IV / BR
--I still think 1 and 2 are the overall best but I do think IV was pretty legit as an action movie and I did like 3's story arc.

Supergirl S4/NF
--Probably the darkest in tone of the series 4 seasons. I liked the Lex story arc. I liked a lot of the story arcs in the season but you can't help but to easily tie in the current political situation with Trump, Illeagal Aliens, Brexit, Russian transgressions to Agent Liberty, Sons of Liberty, Manchester Black, ect.... That end though, that was rough to watch considering the season.

The Flash S_/ NF
--A pretty good season overall but this series keeps getting me with all the time travel to solve and cause problems. I have no idea how the comic books played out the ability of time travel in this but it just seems to convenient. Thawn coming back into play, Nora and her back to the future family issues, and some other things were interesting to see play out.

The Living Daylights / dvd
--Just wanted to watch a Dalton Bond movie. I still love it.

Compulsion/ NF
--Its kind of like an interpretation of Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut but with its own twist. An interesting tale to be sure.

Stranger Things S3/ NF
--I loved Seasons 1 and 2 and this one was a pretty good almost wrap up to the scenario they were getting into. That end though.... I hope S4 keeps up the quality

Men In Black International / theater
--I am not sure what the haters hated about it but I liked it a lot. Arguably as good as the fist one. The one thing I'd offer as a knock on it though is it lacked the cheesy alien designs like the first three had.

Men In Black 1-3/BR
--1 is still a classic. 3 was pretty good and Brolin's homage to TLJ was great. 2, of the original 3, was just not as good IMO.

Spiderman: Far From Home- Theaters.. Ok I was a little skeptical of the movie, but overall I liked it, doesn't hurt that I've been re-watching all of the MCU movies waiting on Endgame to be released (I own them all digitally and pre-ordered Endgame after seeing it).

I feel like the best comedic scenes were shown in the trailer.. And overall I have to remind myself that he's a kid in these movies and remember what it was like to be that age... But I actually liked it. The plot with Mysterio was good, I'm not a Jake Gyllenhal or however it's spelled fan, but he did a great job. That whole arc was good and even now I question his final scene in the movie. The end credits were good too, so make sure to stick around. Overall if I had to say this was following Endgame, I think it was a good follow up. Tom Holland is growing into the character and is making it work.

RE: The movie thread
Oh yea..

So I got a good deal on all the Rambo movies and went back and watched them. I still like First Blood the best.. I think Rambo 3 got a little hokey, but I liked Rambo and am anxious for Last Blood.

My wife got me all the Jack Ryan movies.. I had never watched them all but we've went back and have been watching them.

So far in my rankings:

1. Patriot Games
2. Shadow Recruit
3. Sum of All Fears

I'm still iffy on Hunt for Red October. I've tried watching it a couple of times and fall asleep and I haven't seen In Clear and Present Danger yet.

I've also watched Aquaman.. I liked it but it could've been so much more... DC has got to get it together.

I just started watching Deadwood.. I'm sucked in after 3 episodes.. I was actually sucked in on Episode 1.

@ Jack Ryan quadriolgy.

I liked Shadow Recruit as well and I can't believe they haven't gotten to a 2nd one with Chris Pine. It could have come down to scheduling with him though.

I agree that while The Hunt For Red October isn't a bad movie, it is kind of sleep inducing. I think the acting was fine.

Patriot Games, with the IRA angle is still my favorite. Sean Bean was a great foe.

Sum of All Fears wasn't bad and I did like it, but it was missing "the thing" the prior two had. I don't think Afleck or Freeman were to blame though.

I loved Clear and Present Danger. The political intrigue and how deep things ran for certain events made it a favorite of mine.

If I were to rank them:

Patriot Games > C&PD > Shadow Recruit > SoAF > THfRO

**************************

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit / BR
--the above post got me to want to rewatch it. I liked it. I liked the angle they took in terms of how Jack Ryan got into the CIA. I am kind of surpised we haven't gotten a second installment with Chris Pine as Jack Ryan though as I thought he did a good job.

Rambo I / BR
--I really liked the story of how he got treated leading him to go back to his military training BUT I also think the plot is very thin in that if that cop never harasses him you have no story past him walking through the town.

Escape Plan 2 / BR
--I liked the first one well enough but was surprised the 2nd one went direct to video. I held out till it got cheap enough and got about a month ago. Finally decided to watch it. Overall, it is not as good as the first one however, I did like story angle of a former employee that got fired taking his "bent on tech is the best prison" position and creating a super prison based on it and and trying to show Stallone's character tech is better was good idea. The other angle involving the other former associate of Stallone's character and his deal with "patience" and how to endure to get out of a prison. I find it kind of poor advertising though to throw Batista's mug on the box art and he isn't really featured in the movie.

Legends of Tomorrow S4 / NF
--Ok, overall, it wasn't a bad season and I kind of liked Constantine being featured for it. And while admittedly this series has been one of the lighter fare's of the CW's DC universe I found Gary and the Asian girl to be a little much. I have no background on John Constantine's background as a character but somehow the bi/homosexual angle they took with him in this season felt a little weird as well as the overdoing it of the ____ and ____'s lesbian couple's "issues". I don't mind it being in the series but it did kind of feel a little over done versus organic. I'd have to go back to prior episodes for the CW's version of Constantine to see if they even alluded to it because when he first appeared in Arrow S_ I don't think they ever got into that with him. Also, it kind of made me want to go back and watch Keanu Reeves Constantine movie again ( I did like it, just not overly so). I did kind of find it odd that they didn't include them the annual crossover episode.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Constantine, well I stand corrected so never mind.

Public Enemies / BR
--A pretty good gangster flick. While I like it, I still think The Untouchables has been the best movie about that era that I have seen.

A Good Day to Die Hard / BR
--Not a bad 5th movie in the series but some of it felt kind of forced to make a #5. I actually thought #4 felt more inline with the series up to that point.

The Patriot / dvd
--Not a bad Mel Gibson flick. Upon my rewatch of it, I was astounded at how many actors I recognized were in it. I am kind of surprised we haven't had more Revolutionary war movies done.

RE: The movie thread
Blade Runner 2049/BR
--Just to long and slow to keep up the interest in the movie overall even if I like the story elements and the cinematography.

Prince of Persia / BR
--I like it as a middle eastern fashion action sci-fi kind of movie but you have to admit, the non-Arabic accents kind of kill its authenticity LOL.

Total Recall (new) / BR
--I consider the Arnold original a classic. This one did a lot of things right IMO but in some ways the story is clearer about what is going on but it also feels less differential when you are doing UK/Australia vs Earth/Mars. What still kind of gets me wrapped up in this movie tale though is if you went to Recall, why would they give you such memories to begin with if you went down that Secret Agent path? I mean, when you come out of the experience, you can have some serious societal adjustment issues and if you are really just in memory mode, would those induced experiences become slander for your targets? How would you distinguish reality from your memory? I also like the Easter Eggs from the first one they dropped in. Now, from my understanding, the new one was closer to what the actual book was about. I kind of like its conflict just slightly more than the set up for Mars, but mainly because it feels so local and tangible, whereas a Martian trip would feel like that other planet has its own issues and doesn't tie into my life. I do think Sharon Stone did the job of the planted foil a little better than Kate Beckinsale but I kind of liked Jessica Beil's deal more so than ____. But both cogs in the store were covered well for the tales they were getting told. I kind of liked how Cohaagan got in on what was going down with the resistance in the new one versus the old one. I will say I found that hidden video for Quaid way more sinister and deceptive in the new one versus the old one but the end game was about the same once everyone got reacquainted.

When watching a film like this, you recognize how vulgar Hollywood films can be. This film is a clean film. -Nothing too crazy. This is a light comedy with a happy ending.

Snow White and the Huntsman/BR
--Say what you want, I really liked this take on Snow White. Charlize Theron killed it as Revenna (sp?).

The Huntsman Winter's War / BR
--Honestly I did like this one a little more than the first. I do kind of hope they do a 3rd if they can keep the quality up.

Creed II / BR
--FINALLY got this on sale. A solid entry in the Rocky/Creed series. The thing that grabbed me about this movie is I was as wrapped up in the Rocky/Adonis story as Ivan and Viktor Drago's. I honestly do think the deleted scene with the post final match conversations between parties was in the movie--it would help it a lot.

Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of GW / BR
--I liked this one a lot better than the first Beasts movie even if I do think the first one was better about the Beasts idea. The special features were very cool on this disc.
