Setup for Shield and how Fury got his eyepatch (LOL). Wasn't sure about Brie playing CM, but though she was good.

Yeah, that was great.

I didn't think Brie did a bad job but I have no real knowledge on CM to say she did or didn't do a good job.

I just thought the origin story was kind of convoluted.

Watched Motley Crue: The Dirt.
* liked it but you could tell it kind of lacked the budget a movie about them should have but from the interview accounts, all the major players wanted to sanitize it and they stuck to their guns and made it as real as possible. I kind of liked the way the touched each's personal history up to the point of the band being formed, then kind of each's own self destructive path and key points in their life, that factored into their redemption and their official end a few years ago.

RE: The movie thread
IT (90s tv movie version ?) / BR
--3hrs worth of IT goodness. I'd need a refresh of the new IT movie in my brain to do some real comparisons but I really liked this tv movie. It felt more complete on some things. I guess this one actually went full circle where as the new one ended on battle 1 with IT. I actually did like the audio commentary on the BR too. I mean, yes the new one had better effects and what not, and on some points it gave more detail than the tv version, but again, it felt like the tv version went full circle with the story where as IT was half the story for the new movie. I believe they are doing a part 2 to finish it up.

SPECTRE / BR
--Not a bad movie and I loved a lot of the tie ins to some things. The key twist I do and don't like.... but it was interesting none the the less.

Skyfall / BR
--Craig's best one so far. It just hit a lot of good notes and some interesting reveals.

Quantum of Solace/ BR
--I liked the political intrigue in terms of showing how deep the rabbit hole went with the conspiracies and corruption.

Casino Royale / BR
--Craig's first Bond movie and while it dragged in the middle, it was interesting on a lot of points. I think ____ is underrated as Felix Liter.

You Only Live Twice / dvd
--One of my favorite Connery Bonds.

Thor: Ragnarok / NF
--Hands down the best Thor movie. Also, I'd put it in the top tier of the MCU with its humor, action, heroes and villains. It just hit a lot of beats with me.

Iron Man and Captain America ...... / NF
--A very cool art style... half cgi/half animated and I liked Taskmaster's deal.

Pulp Fiction / NF
--just wanted to hear the bad ass dialogue again LOL.

Shutter Island / BR
--The more I watch the movie, the more I pick up all the subtle details about what really was going on. One of my faves in terms of dramas.

The Departed / BR
--One of my favorite crime dramas (I kind of want to go back and revisit the Hong Kong cinema Internal Affairs trilogy it was based on again for full comparison). I loved the characters, I loved the scenarios, and some of the humor was pretty good.

Rented Bumblebee and it was better than expected.
Like to see the civil war on Cybertron and how the current crop of autobots came to Earth due to Bumblebee.

However, I guess the Decepticons came to Earth before because Megatron was frozen in ice for hundreds of years from the first Transformers movie?

RE: The movie thread
Finally got around to watching Aquaman (Amazon rental), and I'm with swoosh. Horrible dialog. Even decent actors couldn't deliver without looking stiff. And the CGI was just too much. Somebody referred to it as resembling Tron - I agree with that. Lots of plot holes and logic gaps that even suspension of disbelief couldn't overcome. But Momoa, even with crap dialog, was good - his take on the character was fun to watch. OK to spend $6 on but I would've been pissed had I shelled out for tix and babysitter to watch that in a theater.

On the other hand, Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse (also Amazon rental). Wow! Fun, funny, fantastic animation. Pretty rare for me to really enjoy a movie with my kids and NOT have to worry about content. Says a lot that it beat out a very good Pixar movie (Incredibles 2) for the Best Animated Feature Oscar - that's only happened 3 times (compared to 9 wins).

Shazam! - Very pleasant surprise. It's one of those old fashion movies that anyone from a kid to an adult can enjoy. Funny, entertaining, all with a "values" message. It's a non-superhero superhero movie.

I need to rewatch the movie as I don't believe it 100% followed the G1 animated series canon for how they got to Earth. In the animated series the two sides were fighting over resources on Cybertron and the Autobots found Earth to be the planet of choice for energy, the Decepticons followed them here--both crash landed on different areas of the planet. The only other mentions of prior Earth visits in the G1 series were the Starscream and Jetfire storyline ( both were out scouting planets and Jetfire crashed on Earth and Starscream could never find him) and then apparently the Insecticons were here prior to the Decepticons ship crashing as well.

While I get what you mean on the CGI, they had to do the whole thing underwater since Aquaman is from the ocean. Its dialogue wasn't the best in spots for sure but most big action movies like this don't have serious dialogue. I didn't really notice any logic gaps. I thought they put out the political backstory of the whole situation pretty well. I do think Black Manta (?) might could have been developed a little more.

Into the Spiderverse was pretty legit.

I thought Shazam was pretty strong myself. It was another strong offering for DC. I liken Shazam to Thor Ragnarok. The two later reveals were unexpected. I agree though, that foster family/real family dynamic was very strong. I thought that scene at the end with his mom was real hard but I could see how that could happen. I also like how the main villain was tied into the story.

You didn't have any trouble with Mera's "only the high born can breath air" line? This is pretty clearly a plot device that allows the most important actors/characters to appear on land with their faces uncovered.

I was also really distracted by the ability of Atlanteans to move in water without swimming.

Just a couple of examples; there are more. It's tough to make an underwater movie, and it's not surprising that Wan had to violate the Laws of Thermodynamics a few times. Usually it was easy to forgive but there were times when I was pulled out of the movie because it was so egregious.

I haven't watched the movie since opening weekend. And I am not the most familiar with the races of underwater peoples involved with Aquaman's deal. If I started to apply real world science to most sci-fi/super hero movies I wouldn't get very far LOL.

Nah, this has nothing to do with races of underwater peoples or real world science. I a big fan of superhero movies as well as science fiction/fantasy, and they often do scientifically questionable things. Which is ok if: 1) they explain it well, and/or 2) it fits in the universe they’ve created. Having Mera simply assert that only “high born” Atlanteans can breath air is silly and violates both 1 and 2. Without any explanation it just felt totally obvious they wanted to make sure all the big stars got to have their faces uncovered. Similarly, the underwater movement thing. Aquaman’s super power is his ability to talk to fish. Atlanteans have gills - fine - but they still have to swim. And they don’t have flippers or Mera’s ability to control water. I’m willing to stipulate they’ve figured out how / adapted to swimming super fast. So why have them move so well through the water with so little movement? My guess is because Wan didn’t want us distracted by them waving their arms all the time.

RE: The movie thread
well...here's the first teaser trailer for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Looks good so far, but there's such a long way to go, don't know if I have any new hope yet (get it?!) The proof of the pudding will be how they rescue the story back from the complete and utter disaster of Rian Johnson's Last Jedi--still haven't bothered to see that one again, much less pay money to buy it, though I did recently re-watch the Prequels, I-III, then Solo, (excellent) then Rogue One, then IV-VI and VII. I gotta tell you, the prequels are growing on me as decent movies, because now we have something in the Star Wars universe so much worse to compare them to (Last Jedi). I still don't care for Jar-Jar and Anakin's sand mumblings, but they are watchable, and the highs outweigh the lows in those movies. Maybe it would have been better if Jonson's mother had known how to spell Ryan correctly, he wouldn't have been so clueless.

I grew up loving Star Wars; however, after being mortally wounded by Frodo and the Ring (and the kids from Hogworts), the death blow to the Star Wars franchise was delivered by Tony Stark in a cave with a box of scraps.

Hellboy - Honestly, kind of a mess. Seemed to jump around from this to that without putting any kind of cohesion between the stories. David Harbour was good, but everyone else just seemed to be there drawing a paycheck. PERFECT example of a movie that was remade that didn't need to be, the original was fine.

Watched 2 this weekend..

1- The Highwaymen (Netflix)- A look at the men who brought down Bonnie and Clyde. Whether it's historically accurate or not is debatable, but it was a good movie. I mean it's an aging Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, what's not to like?

2- Avengers: Endgame (Theater)- I can't even.. Yes it's 3 hours, but doesn't feel like it. I honestly didn't feel like there was a slow moment in the movie. I feel like it wrapped up the Avengers/Thanos arc nicely.

OK, Here it goes.....

Avengers: Endgame - 5 out of 5. Thought it was fantastic. It had action, humor, emotion, and a good story. Really liked the way they handled Cap & Tony's wrap up. Thought they did a nice job of exiting Phase 3 and potential story lines for Phase 4.

BTW, a MUST see in the theater. This type of blockbuster is designed for the big screen and a huge sound system.

Not the end of Phase 3.. Spiderman: Far From Home will wrap it up.

I too liked the way they wrapped up Tony and Cap.. The opening scene with Cap and Tony hit me in the gut as did several other scenes.. Especially the "hug" in the battle.

You're right, Spiderman is the end of Phase 3. I was thinking more the end of the current Avengers portion.

Eventually they'll have to figure out a way to integrate the X-Men and FF into the MCU. My first thought was use Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season.
