Transformers: The Last Knight / theater

Where to begin? The core of the story sounded very interesting. But this movie has issues.... and most of it trying to explain itself about the Transformers ties to Earth, Quintessa/Qunitessants and their motives for bringing Cybetron to Earth, how Unicron is on/in Earth, the Witwicka--the lineage of Witwikis from Merlin onward..., the ramifications of Cybertron hitting Earth like it did in the movie. Then while the cinematics of the Transformers universe were great it does bring into question why there were overly lengthy action sequences in between plot points, where did Optimus go for half the movie, how he got to the Core later but left earlier than the assisting humans, the overuse of military in action scenes, the almost tacked on for effect Anthony Hopkins, the weird relationship the female scientist had with her parents and the soft sell of her and Yeager hooking up.

Honestly, aside from cinematic license to do some stuff with the story, some of the elements brought up in this movie have me questioning my knowledge (primarily of G1 animated show and G1 movie with side steps into a few of the newer animated series) about the relationship of Quintessa/Quintessnts and their formation Transformers, who Cybertron is, who Unicron is, and several other ties them and Earth. IMO, the only movie worse in the series is 2. I found 1 and 3 to be my favorites and I generally liked 4.

Just watched the movie "Everything Must Go" with Will Farrell. Not sure what to think about it, hoping it was a comedy but it ended up being a serious role for him. Anyone else see it or have an opinion?

What I think they got right:

Peter Parker in high school
--high school struggles in general
--Parker's struggle with almost being the man

Villain, Keaton was great...
-I personally liked the concept of him working with weapon scraps

His girlfriend's dad, granted, I don't know if that was canon for Spidey and the Vulture.

Based on Civil War, his relation ship with Stark and the Avengers.

What kind of bugged me...

A little too much Stark--granted, the way Civil War played out prior, the relationship worked on that kind of level.
--I did like the motif of Stark, have to teach Parker about how to become a hero when they shared some of the same parallels in terms of being super smart, being bestowed a great gift, and how to handle it and what that entails.

Shocker, seemed, like he was thrown in there as Shocker but not as Shocker.

I'm not sure how I liked the gets suit, suit gets taken away, gets back, loses again, gets back again...

How did Happy come back? I might have to revisit Iron Man 3, but I thought he died in that one.

Okay. I have a fan theory of sorts. General Ross or whatever he is now. Builds the Thunderbolts. Which has been being sorta set up in the MCU. Abomination takes the Hulk part ( If Ross doesn't become Red Hulk ) Baron Zemo is team leader?, Vulture takes Mach-4 spot as the Iron Man substitute. Any thoughts?

Saw it tonight. I agree with a lot of your points. As someone who liked Spider-Man 1 and 2 i felt this was a great restart. Keaton was great and the twist was definitely unexpected.

Unlike you though I felt that it was a little too much high school angst. That said, it is no different than Winter Soldier being a political action film. I felt that it was just enough RDJ and Tomei was also nice.

Happy came out of his coma at the end of IM3; the nurse was about to turn off "Downton Abbey," and he woke up just in time to stop her.

Saw Baby Driver last night. As I grew up in the ATL, I liked seeing familiar spots in the movie. The flick itself felt very uneven for some reason. I think it might have to do with 'Baby's' soundtrack in that it seems very bolted on in relation to the overall plot

Saw Spider Man on Saturday night.

I really enjoyed it. It seemed to be a a good stand alone movie that also managed to be a good segue for Spidey into the MCU.

What I liked:

Tom Holland is a great Spiderman. I think he'll be in the role for a long time, especially if the Sony/Marvel partnership continues.

I liked having Tony Stark in the movie. Considering the first two launches were outside the MCU, they needed to have a tie-in so starting Spidey off in Civil War then using that to create a new path for this movie was smart. I think Tony as a mentor figure helped close up some loose ends.

Michael Keaton was great. He manages to walk that line between sanity/insanity, good/evil very well. I wouldn't be shocked to see his Vulture character back.

What I didn't like:

The supporting cast from Peter's high school was just "blah". They just seemed to be story fodder instead of being crucial to the story of the story-line.

They never really explained why or how Liz managed to acquire her "crush" on Peter. She pretty much ignored him then suddenly goes to homecoming with him? It seemed to be more of a story creation to tie Spidey to Vulture more than an actual high school crush.

Overall, I'd rank it as the second best I've seen so far. GOG II is still the best, Spidey second, WW third.

Waiting to see how Apes and Valerian will measure up.

I haven't seen it yet but this bugs me already. I don't usually feel like canon has to be obeyed, but it feels weird to me that now Stark gets all this credit for making Spiderman what he is/can be. I'm not saying they have to keep trotting out the Uncle Ben "...with great power comes great responsibility" trope, but I feel like Parker's humble upbringing and the influence of his family is a huge part of his character. I'm not thrilled that they're letting Stark take a lot of that on (although I actually like the idea that he gets technology from him - that's pretty cool). Hopefully I'll find the translation on screen better than what I've read so far.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how little Stark's role is in this film. He's really just someone who Parker can talk to about being a hero.

That's not quite how Stark rolls in this one for the most part.

He pretty much, post airport fight, hooks up Spiderman with a awesome suit kind of like one of his Mark X Ironman suits...but custom tailored for Spiderman's own needs and uses. Stark isn't playing the Uncle Ben speach of "With great power comes great responsibility" speech with him--he's playing the the suit helps but you have to be a great hero without the suit first --basically more akin to Stark had to learn some lumps the hard way about being a super hero in a suit and he kind of wants to help Parker though that phase of it.

Saw the movie CHIPS last night it was a total bummer. Nothing like the old T.V. shows and nothing like I thought it would be. It's worth the red box only for one night!

Saw War for the Planet of the Apes last night and to be frank, it's excellent.

Unlike movies like GoG II and Spiderman which are what I'd call action adventures, this is more of an action drama. It's well acted, interesting characters, genuine emotion, and tells a story that leads you to think that everything isn't as black & white as it may seem.

I'd highly recommend it.
