Anybody watched it yet? My spoiler-free review: Not as good as Season 1 but it's still a great watch. Feels like they tried a little too hard; too many story lines. I'm not sure what they were trying to do with Elektra. Punisher is terrific, though.

And if you enjoyed the hallway fight scene in Season 1 (of course you did), there's a fight in Season 2 that might actually top it.

Do you know much about Elektra and the DD relationship from the comics? She is pretty much an essential character.

Yes, I understand that. Have you seen Season 2? I don't want to give a bunch a way here but it's HOW she appears and interacts that seemed, well, not well thought out.

I don't know the comic book history. I don't have strong memories of Affleck's DD movie even though I liked the Elektra movie better.

It seems to be from a brief look up on something about characters I did from Wiki that they are following the Frank Miller spin of DD. So I guess all this The Hand stuff, Stick, ect.... flows from that.

I do think overall that S2 had way more action...but it was still pretty good.

***************

Young Justice S1 / NF
--an interesting spin on the "Teen Titans" idea....I kind of like it so far.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Pt. 2 / BR
--Good movie.... I liked the overall story.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny / NF
--As a martial arts movie its pretty good, as the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon its not as good as the first one.

Justice League: War / NF
--Ehhh remixed costumes not withstanding...the movie felt like one big action scene of explosions. I am not overly feeling it.

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice / theater
--It had that Batman Superman tension I had seen in previous animated movies involving both and I think the action in it was pretty good but it felt like one long set up for Justice League. I kind of thought Wonder Woman would have been a bigger deal in it but they did her well.

The Batman Superman Movie/ dvd
--Watched it just because. The Joker/Lex Luthor interaction was interesting.

You'll love young justice season 2. And make sure to watch Green Lantern:TAS too. Unfortunately both were canceled because they didn't sell toys.

JL:War is apart of the new52 reboot, and it shows. Throne of Atlantis is much better

YJ S2 was fairly decent overall but the some of the extra heroes they threw in and gave token screen time too kind of took edge off they had in S1.

I can understand that. But the Light as a Conspiracy group I thought was well executed. BTW, watch Batman: Assault on Arkam before seeing Suicide Squad movie this summer.

Shrek I, II, and IV / BR
*In all seriousness the Smashmouth concert for Pirates fest had dig these back up. 1st as good, the 2nd was a great follow up. 3, which I own but didn't watch, fell flat. The 4th had a great villain.

The Protector / dvd
--Early 80s Jackie Chan movie...I bet it was his 2nd English movie as I believe Cannonball Run was his first. Pretty decent action movie.

Kill Bill / BR
--Loved the first one.

Young Justice S2 / NF
--Not bad, but some of the added on heroes for S2 kind of took the edge off and the bad use of a Mexican American character as Blue Beetle.. I mean you have the kid use "esse" in the show? LOL. I did like the overall plot once it got going though.

Archer S5 / NF
--Still as crazy as ever.

The Jungle Book / theater
--not a bad retelling of the animated original by Disney. I liked some of the plot lines better than the original. I was kind of impressed the CGI talking animals were pulled off as good as they were.

The Hateful Eight / BR
--I liked the whodunit aspect of the story once they got to the store. I liked the interplay of the characters and how much some knew/had heard of the others.

Star Wars VII / BR
--I liked the movie enough, and watching the BR let me go over some details better. The special features were pretty good.

Snow White and the Huntsman / BR
--I liked the spin on the Snow White tale.

RE: The movie thread
Crippled Avengers (aka The Return of the Five Deadly Venoms) / dvd
--the aka is because it uses the guys who played the 5DV in the original but this movie is "venomless." A cool tale of how some crippled guys get taught some martial arts and band together to take down the person that put them that way.

Aliens/ DC BR
--One of my favorites and the DC version adds some much needed extra footage for some parts.

Alien Resurrection/ BR
--OF my least favorite Alien movies I like 4 more so than 3. The cloning angle of the story is what gets me but I do like how it could have been a necessary evil by The Company to get their aliens that way.

The Huntsman: Winter's War / theater
--I liked the original Snow White and the Huntsman and IMO the sequel is better on a lot of levels. The evil queen is even more so....even punking her sister....

Batman/ BR
--Went back to it because of Prince doing the soundtrack...

Twilight Zone / NF
--Been through 10 of the original black and white series episodes. Good stuff...

Archer S5 / NF
--finished it...crazy stuff....

The Avengers: Frost Fight
--Interesting spin on Santa Claus' ties to Thor and his worlds. Loki's plans are like a bad "save Christmas" plot but hey.... Too bad the two Guardians of the Galaxy characters that were thrown in just didn't fit. FWIW, I liked these characters better in the tv show than this movie....it felt way to contrived.

Captain America: The First Avenger / BR
--Good starter flick for the franchise.

Captain America: Civil War / theater
--I liked Winter Soldier just a little more.... but, how the story plays out and the angles and the additions.... make it have more intrigue than TWS IMO. I can confirm that Ant Man does a good job and shows off a unseen yet power. Also, Black Panther and Spiderman fit in well with how this story gets laid out.

Deadpool/BR
--An insane movie and a good recovery from whatever you want to call what they did in Wolverine. I loved the biting comedy and sarcasm.

Jessica Jones S1/NF
--I had heard about it. Then someone at work said they had started it liked it and kind of told me its deal. I binged watch the whole first season in 4 days. I liked the main villain. I kind of liked her powers. It seemed more "real life" than "super-heroy" but I did have some issues with it. Not saying you can't have a hard drinking/living female but it kind of felt off in that regard. Her best friend was a former child star with her own issues? The cop boyfriend giving deja vu vibes of Bourne Legacy "chems"? Also, the Luke Cage romance started really strong then nearly disappeared out of the show till the last few episodes. Not sure what the deal was with how that was handled.

Tropic Thunder/BR
--A pretty good comedy IMO. I liked the concept of it. Kind of a Rambo/MIA/Platoon spoof.

G.I.Joe Series 2 Season 2 / dvd
--Heh, in order to score free shipping from amazon.com I got S2 to make the cut. I had bought S1 a LONG time ago. All I can say is, the G1 GI Joe series was way better on quality of writing, animation, stories, characters, ect.... The Series 2 stuff felt like whoever owned the rights to G1 made G2 on a shoestring budget and dropped 80% of the characters that were already in place at the end of the "G1" series. So this isn't an attack on S2 characters, or vehicles, or stuff of that nature, but more of an attack of putting out a obviously cut back budget production to what had been a quality series of cartoons.

Just got home from a screening of x men apocalypse.
Those that like the last few X-man films will enjoy this one. Feels very similar.
I haven't liked the series in a while, but couldn't pass up free tickets.

Transformers: The Movie / dvd
--wanted some old school...

Transformers (G1) episodes from S1, S2, and S3./ dvd
--wanted to check out some Knight related material

Harry Potter: The Deathly Hollows Pt 2/ BR
--wanted to watch it

Kickboxer/ BR
--wanted some old school JCVD action!

XMen: Days of Future Past / BR
--wanted to freshen up before XMA.

Twilight Zone / NF
--more episodes from S1

X Men: Apocalypse / theater
--as good as the other two entries IMO. I liked some of the story elements.

The new Independence Day movie looks really good in the trailers. It's not a remake but a sequel. Earth has had 20 years to develop their technology to prepare for their return but so have they! Some characters are back but apparently Will Smith isn't, his characters son is.

Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch & Brent Spiner are all back.

I saw X-Men this weekend and I felt that it was simply below average. As someone who loved Days of Future Past, I felt that the execution of the Apocalypse storyline wasn't very unique. Mr. Sinister could have been used just as well. Quite honestly, as the Age of Apocalypse storyline is the best one for the first mutant, this felt like a waste.

Also, the actress playing Phoenix just didn't do it for me. But I get it's difficult following Famke Janssen.

RE: The movie thread
happy people: a year in the taiga. werner herzog's stunning portrayal of life in siberia

a coffee in berlin: honest and a breath of fresh air. mostly dialogue based (which is fine by me)

oldboy- i'm late on this one and wished i hadn't watched it. it's a classic and worthy of its status, just... christ man

everest- well that's pretty bleak. sign me up! josh brolin was such a turd. and he's the one that lived. spoiler

revenant- saw this and the above while on my recent flight. i hate those airline headphones. hurt my damn ears can barely enjoy a film. but this was pretty badass. tom hardy rocked

begin again- a safe choice for the lady and i. from the director of (the magnificent) once. avoid almost none of the romcom cliches and only was saved from outright cheese is because they didn't fall in love. spoiler. but overall i enjoyed it. kierra knightly is more than believable as a singer songwriter. mark ruffalo is always stellar. mos def! and this is the one i devote more time to. sounds about right

RE: The movie thread
WOW, so uhh since last posting

Dirty Harry franchise / dvd
--I liked each one for different reasons but I thought the strongest were 1,2, and 4.

Lethal Weapon franchise / br
--IMO 2>1>3>4. I liked the plot to #2. I liked 3's idea for the villain. I liked some elements in 4 but IMO they did Jet Li wrong.

Die Hard with a Vengeance / br
--just wanted to watch it....

The Twilight Zone S1, S2 / NF
--really enjoying the episodes.

The Incredible Hulk (tv series) / NF
--I remembered a little bit about the show during its original tv run but never really watched full episodes. Saw it was up on Netflix and decided to start. I kind of like it so far... almost done with S1.

The Bourne _____ / BR
--watched 1-3 in getting my memories back up on the series before the new one comes out.

Independence Day Resurgence/ theater
--ehhh....it was a cash grab based on the prior movie. I did like the way they played out the advancement of tech based on the events of the first movie's scenario. While the first one definitely had its hokey moments the newer one had more and felt more "forced."

Force of Execution/ NF
--a Ving Rhames, Steven Seagal, Danny Trejo crime action drama.... not bad for what it was...

Spectre / BR
--I liked it but somehow, some of the reasoning out of the story didn't feel quite right.

The Avengers: / BR
--I liked it a lot.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron/BR
--While I liked it, I found Ultron to not be as bad ass as he was alluded to in the commercials for the movie.

Ghostbusters II / BR

Well, the first movie was certainly a cash grab. If you want to point to patient zero in Hollywood's trend of movies that put all their time, energy and money into effects in lieu of plot and dialog, it's Independence Day. Never before that movie was there so much simultaneous praise of special effects and derision of story. I think cynicism has always been a component of the movie industry but it sure seems like ID was its coming out party. Would we have had the Michael Bay Transformers movies without ID?
