It was a fascinating look into a serious issue. That being said I was not happy with some of the liberties taken with the truth (ie. Cyril Wecht was indicted on fraud charges prior to the studies on CTE and Dr. Olamu actually testified against him). I realize movies often stretch the truth for the purpose of Hollywood but distorting reality on a minor issue makes you wonder what else is fabricated.

The whole problem I have with this "NFL Concussion" movie is that concussions are more taxing with each successive concussion and these could start as early as youth football technically... so you have youth >high school > college > pro.... Its not necessarily "THE NFL" where these things start.

RE: The movie thread
Ant Man/BR
--Loved the humor and thought the integration of the large and small scales used in the movie were done great. I think the key to extending the franchise will be how well he merges into The Avengers.

Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation/BR
--One of my favorite MI movies in the series. Really good intrigue.

Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens / theater
--Liked it because of the lessened CGI visual sheen than the prequels. A pretty good movie in integrating old and new cast members. Didn't want to see Han go out like that. I did get the strange feeling of it being like Ep IV overall.

Star Wars IV, V, VI/BR
--Completed the series before seeing TFA.

Point Break / dvd
--watched it again before I go see the remake eventually. I liked the movie but can't figure out how it would be chosen to get a remake. Also, I never got how TF&F got compared to it aside from young adrenaline junkies doing their thing in each.

The Avengers S2/NF
--8 episodes in on the 2nd season via NF. A pretty good show so far. IMO, where are Antman and his crew and Black Panther and his crew--not overly feeling so much Falcon screen time.

Star Trek S2/NF
--I still love the old ST series compared to anything else they have done since tv wise. Some good episodes in it.

PotC On Stranger Tides/BR
--I loved the whole Black Beard angle in it.

*before Spectre hit theaters I watched the following:

Goldfinger/dvd
--pretty good IMO

Dr. No/dvd
--Liked it and was looking for some Spectre talk.

Thunderball/dvd
--One of my favorite Connery ones.

Krang in TMNT 2.

Uggh, he worked as a cartoon... not sure about live action. Although I am feeling their choice for Casey Jones

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/40656/b...ansformers

Bay doing one last TF movie. Honestly, to convert this thing to live action, I feel that overall they have done a good job. 2 is the only one that arguably sucked a fat one. As far as Extinction went, its hard to pull off the Dinobots in live action/current times--not sure what else they could have done.

Django / BR
--great movie, interesting Western

Pulp Fiction / dvd

Hateful Eight / theater

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves / dvd
--such a great movie to have such a **** transfer to dvd.

Charlies Angels/ dvd
--not bad for what it was, but I think they over did the campiness from the show.

Galaxy Quest/dvd
--Great Star Trek spoof

Avengers Assemble S2/ Net Flix
--not a bad follow up season.

Star Trek S2/ NF
--over half way through this season and I must say...I still like OG Star Trek and the newest iteration in the movies the best.

Gotham S1 / NetFlix
--Watched 2 episodes so far and while the show isn't bad...I am not sure how am feeling the vibes of how they want to set Gordon up in the show.

Gonna have to disagree with your assessment here. I have lots of problems with this movie but Costner's dismal acting alone is enough to make this movie far from great. Did you watch this originally as a fairly young kid?

Stick with it. I've enjoyed it so far, although Season 2 has taken a seriously dark turn.

Older teenager. I loved the movie. The transfer to dvd the first time was not that great, but the SE I got.... ehhh.... and I am not even getting into my BR player upconverting on a 50" 1080p plasma.... it is a sh* transfer.

Now, the Disney animated one wasn't all that. The latest Russell Crowe version was not too bad... but a little more serious than the rather light hearted tale told in Costner's.

Watched Deadpool. Lots of raunchy humor, profanity, nudity and violence. I loved it.

Had to laugh though because the theater had warning signs up all over the place telling parents the movie was not suitable for young children. The movie isn't but shouldn't the R rating give parents the hint?

apparently it's set to break the record for a February opening and is on its way to making $130 million over the 4 day weekend. I really enjoyed it and it's clear all the marketing worked quite well. Pretty much guarantees a sequel

RE: The movie thread
Afro Samurai: Resurrection/dvd
--Man I wish this would come back in a big way. Such a cool way to put a anime spin on a "Jim Kelly persona."

Kick Ass / BR
--love the way this was done. In some ways I liked the sequel better.

Quantum of Solace/dvd
--I liked the movie, I liked the deepness of the sh* that Bond was uncovering.... I don't think it gets its due even though I would say its his weakest Bond.

Casino Royale/ dvd
--Good intro Bond movie for Craig. I wasn't really into the villain but I liked a lot of what they did.

Skyfall / BR
--Craig's best Bond even though I felt the main villain could have been even more evil.

Spectre/BR
--I like the movie, but I felt it got suffocated in homage's to older Bond movies. The Bloefield plot/reveal was interesting...

300: Rise of an Empire / BR
--I liked it as a sequel even though I think it was a fresher concept with the first one.

300/BR
--Just a bad ass movie

Star Trek S3/ NetFlix
--4 episodes in.... I am convinced I only like this version of the TV show and the newer movies in terms of my Star Trek fandom.

Black Widow & The Punisher / NF
--A pretty good animated movie with Black Widow and the Punisher. I liked their chemistry in the movie but in the way The Punisher was presented I almost wanted to know more about his history with Nick Fury.

Kung Fu Panda 3 /theater
--I liked it, and the story of "chi" and teaching that was involved in the plot was pretty cool. I was underwhelmed in the whole finding his Panda father side of it though.... I don't think they developed that side of the movie enough.

Con Air/ dvd
--back when Nick Cage was a action star LOL. Whatever, I liked it... a pretty bad ass cast as well.

The Rock Criterion ed. / DVD
--I loved this movie...

Gone in 60 Seconds / dvd
--Not bad... I still haven't watched the original(s)

Kung Fu Panda 2 / BR
--I liked the story and the main villain.

Kick Ass 2 / br
--good movie IMO, I liked some ideas in it better than the first--not sure why it didn't get the love

The Punisher/ NF
--Not a bad action movie...Travolta was sporting that bad 90's Vincent Vega haircut LOL.

Daredevil S1 / NF
--going back through it in anticipating S2.

Man of Steel/ BR
--not a bad movie but some things I liked more than the first two Superman movies and some things I didn't.

Went and saw London has fallen this weekend. Not as good as the original movie in this series (Olympus Has fallen), but if a good shoot-em-up action flick with some corny one-liners is your thing, this will do the trick.

RE: The movie thread
Dragonslayer/dvd
--old school 80s fantasy movie

Daredevil/NF
--rewatched the whole series again... I believe S2 is coming up in a few weeks.

Son of Batman/NF
--Pretty cool movie IMO.

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox/NF
--A little cleaner explanation of some stuff involving The Flash that the tv show wasn't clear at IMO.

Creed/BR
--A good follow up in the Rocky franchise but I do think that now its time to leave Balboa alone if they want to continue it.

The Dark Knight/BR
--one of the best Batman movies made.

Ultimate Spiderman Web Warriors/ NF
--Says its S3 of the show but its the only season they have up. I kind of dig it.

Superman I and II/BR
--wanted a Superman refresher before Dawn of Justice

Man of Steel / BR
--same, wanted a Superman refresher before Dawn of Justice

Fifty Shades of Grey/BR
--yeah, whatever.... still going to be upset if Christian Grey isn't some sort of serial killer at the end LOL.

Can't wait for Daredevil S2! But it's kind of irritating getting no better than piecemeal information on the other NF Marvel projects. We finally got a release date for Luke Cage (September 30) but that was a long time coming. Still no idea when Iron Fist is coming, or when/if there will be a Jessica Jones Season 2. And the Defenders? No idea.

I'm old enough to have seen these films in the theater as a kid (yep - 03-old). They were amazing films at the time (esp the first one) because they did such a good job of explaining the back story and filling in the blanks that you didn't get unless you read the comic books. They were just clever enough, and with just a hint of camp, while giving a really meaty story. The casting of Marlon Brando was remarkable at the time. He'd done very little film work in recent years and Superman was seen as pretty low-brow stuff for someone of his stature. And Gene Hackman as Luthor was fantastic. Doesn't really hold up that well (how could it - it's 38 years old!) but a lot of the scenes are still great.

Anybody watching House of Cards on Netflix or Bosch on Amazon?

I'm not entirely sure why I watch House of Cards. I guess it's got a great cast and they perform well despite having absurd story lines. This season continues the madness and, without spoiling anything, ends on what I would consider a pretty ridiculous shot/line.

Bosch is cool. Based on a Michael Connolly character (I haven't read the books), it has a bit of film noir character. It's got a great feel for LA that as a local I appreciate, and it plays the political angle reasonably well. Another good cast.

I'm not the biggest comic book guy.... so I can't immediately jump in to all these Superhero shows showing up... DD grabbed because it had gotten positive reviews from folks I'd trust commenting on how good a Superhero movie was/is. I was captivated about the back story of DD and the back story they got into with Wilson Fisk. Plus Kingpin was such a bad ass!

Superman did kind of seem "below" Brand but when you think about it .. it IS Superman's father he played... Brando had the street cred to be believable as his dad.
