RE: The movie thread
Furious 7 / BR
--As a action movie it really delivered and I loved how they worked in elements from all the movies, especially the tie-ins related to Tokyo Drift. IMO, its only issue was how far it has gone from where the series started.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron / BR
--Decent movie but, IMO, lacked some cohesiveness among the parts and Ultron seemed more evil in the commercials versus the actual movie.

Conan (new) / BR
--Not bad as historic set up movie and the new guy in the Conan role wasn't bad-- he just wasn't Arnie

Conan the Barbarian/BR
--cool old school movie

Conan the Destroyer/BR
--cool movie

The Bourne Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum / BR
--I really loved the trilogy and the depth of the conspiracy.

The Bourne Legacy/BR
--A interesting sequel and the delving into alternate programs by the same guys from the original trilogy. The biological angle was nice twist.

Total Recall (og)/BR
--All the Mars news had me wanting to watch it LOL.

Total Recall (new)/BR
--did some stuff better than the original, but also had its own issues. I liked it though.

Scream, Scream 2 /dvd
--Just wanted to watch....

Sleepy Hollow / dvd
--just wanted to watch

Mad Max: Fury Road / BR
--Just an insanely bad ass movie...could have used some story tweaking though to make it run better

Legend of Korra Book 4/ BR
--End of the sequel series to Avatar: The Last Airbender. Pretty cool stuff.

The Town/BR
--One of Affleck's best movies IMO. Really loved the Irish gangster ****.

I saw The Martian yesterday and it's an absolute must see movie. Better than Gravity and thought that was an awesome movie as well. Space movies are on a roll (Interstellar, Gravity, & The Martian).

I saw the Martian today. It was a pretty faithful adoration of the book and the changes were acceptable. While a enjoyed the film, I think maybe the movie starting straight off with Watney waking up and beginning his video journal might have conveyed a greater level of loneliness and struggle than playing the story straight.

But it really is Apollo 13 part II

RE: The movie thread
Back to the Future I-III / BR
--I and III I liked the most... II had its moments but just felt like they wanted to really overdo the Time Travel

The Expendables 2 and 3 / BR
--2 was pretty solid and I loved JCVD as a villain. 3 Had its moments but it seemed like it was more a ensemble party that a solid movie... and they really struggled with a solid plot line.

The legend of Korra Book 4 / BR
--Conclusion to the tv series. A kind of cool way to end it.

Southpark S18/ dvd
--Had some great episodes in it.

Saw the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 this weekend with my 15 year old.

Overall it was decent, although I never liked how they made two movies out of the last book. It was pretty cool to see them edit around the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I saw Mockingjay Part II this weekend as well. I think Julianne Moore makes Coin too sympathetic.

Because the movie droned on for 2 hours, I was rooting for Snow all the way!

RE: The movie thread
Mockingjay Pt II/theater
--While not a bad movie, I don't like how they reasoned out some of the material to its conclusion... The ending kind of ticked me off

******************

LotR: Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers on EEBR.
--Like the movies

Rocky I, II, III, and IV on BR
--Prepping up for catching Creed within the next week. I still think I and II were the best. III, had its merit but there is no way Rocky could survive the beating Clubber Lang gave him with all those head punches...no way...and why the hell would he not try to block them? IV had the whole cold war vibe which I get for that time but, again, even within the movie's own logic, no way Rocky could take all those head shots from Drago. I should get to IV and Rocky Balboa in the next few days.

GitS Borders 3 and 4 BR
--Still a good series iteration with getting into the team's backstory.

Friday the 13/BR
--The new version...while not bad... even the token character types felt more token than what you got in the originals. That said, I think they did a good job in working out some backstory and what not in the update.

Spectre/theater 2x
--A SOLID movie with lots of homages to the Bond catalog of movies. The one thing that kind of irked me was the Bloefield tie in. Maybe because I was unfamiliar with the book lore. IMO, its not as good as Skyfall but its still a solid entry.

Creed = Outstanding movie!!! Stallone and Michael B. Jordan nails it. And the camera angles used in the boxing fights will transcend boxing movies from here on out.

Good to hear, I am seeing it sometime this week. Just finished up through Rocky V and started Rocky Balboa.

I saw that in the theatre's when it first came out. I thought the first half was awesome. They kind of lost me starting at the Church scene. It was as if the movie changed writers/directors half-way through. .

Creed/theater
--The movie is legit with its "Son of Apollo" angle. The only thing that felt off to me was the subliminal Nike advertising.

Did you like Rocky Balboa? Some obvious holes in the story such as the New Jersey boxing commission allowing Rocky to box even though dude had brain damage from his previous fights. Overall though, I liked Balboa and thought it was a good way to finish the Rocky franchise.

I don't consider Creed to be a Rocky movie but more of a start to the Creed franchise.

My only response to that part is in the movie they/he said he passed the test to be a licensed fighter. Granted at the end of 5 he was getting those headaches from the head shots he took against Clubber Lane and Ivan Drago.

RE: The movie thread
Star Wars I-III / BR
--II is still my fave of the prequels.

Arrow S3/NF
--Finished season 3 of Arrow. I like the show a lot. I found the League of Assassins story line/s of his history/present to be pretty interesting. Not sure if that would have been the same way without what Nolan brought to light in Batman Begins. The inclusion and expansion of the characters with The Atom and The Flash make for interesting story lines themselves. My only real thoughts are... it sure seems like Green Arrow is like someone wanted to do Batman/LoA with a different spin and came up with this. And, as I recall from what Justice League animated shows I watched.... Batman and Green Arrow don't discuss the LoA too much.

Just saw the new trailers for Star Trek Beyond and Independence Day Resurgence. Lets just say they were both pretty underwhelming. The Trek trailer just completely sucked.

RE: The movie thread
To those rewatching Star Wars before the movie comes out, try watching them in Machete Order (IV, V, II, III, then VI, skipping I altogether), which is basically the optimal order to watch the series if you're brand new to the movies. But even for older fans, it makes for a much better experience because you don't have to end on the prequels, it doesn't 'spoil' the father twist, it 'creates' the Luke-Leia twist when they're born at the end of III, and you don't have to watch Phantom Menace.

RE: The movie thread
I watched Concussion staring Will Smith this weekend.

It was a fascinating look into a serious issue. That being said I was not happy with some of the liberties taken with the truth (ie. Cyril Wecht was indicted on fraud charges prior to the studies on CTE and Dr. Olamu actually testified against him). I realize movies often stretch the truth for the purpose of Hollywood but distorting reality on a minor issue makes you wonder what else is fabricated.
