We all talk about who we'd try to pick from C-USA if C-USA is raided by the Big East to go to 12, but that's assuming that everything else remains the same(including the current Big 10) If the Big East were to take three or four from C-USA then we'd be in a decent position to make a power play from the remaining C-USA members, but if this movement to 16 happens across the board, I just don't see all us all still being in the same conference. 16 team conferences, may or may not happen, but if they do, I'd be willing to bet there's next to no chance that the current Sun Belt members will all still be in the same conference.

Your are right. This thread should be more along the lines of if conferences go to 16 members, who will be cherrypicked from the SBC and what will happen to the remaining members as there may no longer be enough to have a viable conference.

That being the case, we have to look at adding sizeable markets to our league. The three best markets that we can add to our current stable of Nashville (MTSU) and Miami (FIU and FAU) are Atlanta (Georgia State), Birmingham (UAB) and San Antonio (UTSA). If we were to add those areas, ESPN and Fox Sports would be more interested and willing to increase the SBC's television exposure and revenue payouts.

Please do not lump FAU into the Miami media market, that would be like saying Tampa and Orlando are in the same media market. The relative distance between Miami and Boca are approx. the same as the distance between Tampa and Orlando. Also, the size of the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale media market is not comparable to the West Palm/Boca/Jupiter market.

However with campuses in lauderdale & davie, we'll take that market, which is plenty damn big... Lauderdale/Boca/Palm Beaches

But in short, bluephi means we share the South Florida Market.

GO OWLS!!!

That might be what he's suggesting but remember we are in different t.v. markets and that's what I think he's referring to when he mentions ESPN and Fox Sports. Don't get me wrong, you guys own the Boca/Jupitor/Ft. Pierce t.v./advertising dollars.

The thing is, if CUSA were to get raided by some combination of MWC, Big XII, Big East or less plausibly the ACC if they get down to five or less it no longer makes any sense to add back members. The auto bid is gone and strictly speaking the NCAA units are gone. Based on past precedent, the only truly viable move is to merge (ie. American South - Sun Belt) with another league which, based on that precedent, allows the new league to keep the units it earned and take on the units earned by the absorbed league. If C-USA gets hammered, joining the Sun Belt as a group ends up being superior to a raid.

+1. To say we are both in the same market (Miami) is just not correct. The local TV affiliates are different (Miami/Ft. Lauderdale), and while fairly close (relatively speaking) it is just not the same TV market. Of course, Boca Raton, which is the main and biggest campus by a lot, is in South Florida which is an advantage.
