I don't think that Notre Dame is really interested in joining the Big Ten, even including a 16 team scenario.

Obviously, I don't really know anything, just "reading tea leaves" like everyone else.

Brian Kelly was just on Dan Patrick's show and he stated that he does not want ND to give up independence and join the Big Ten.

Is this merely bravado or an attempt to appease the masses? Is this a signal from ND that they will not cave in and join the Big Ten?

Oh, I know that ND doesn't WANT to join the Big Ten. My understanding is that Kelly has also emphasized that things have to be looked at for other sports and the entire university, too.

I'm beginning to think the Big Ten Conference is really the Drama Queen Conference.

Delany never stated that. The media speculated that the timing could work out that way since the AAU and BCS meetings were so close together.

That's what I thought Frank. It did make sense from a speculative standpoint that the meeting was scheduled just before the BCS conferences met for a reason, but that was just speculative. Maybe it was and they just didn't have consensus on expansion. Maybe it wasn't and it was all a coincidence. Regardless, it's probably going to be some time before we know if ever.

1) I wonder now, given the info we just learned about ND not being in the B10's plans (for quite sometime), if the UConn name started to come out as a result.

2) Imagine the B10 adding UConn (basketball 'name') and Nebraska (football 'name'), along with Rutgers -- going with 14 until ND realizes 4 years later it absolutely can't go independent. Now, mind you, I made this up...

I believe this is a grave misnomer, we are already competing directly with USF for recruits and come out pretty even, heck we took one from UL this year.

I think that having UCF and USF in the BE would actually help BOTH programs. The in conference rivalry at a BCS level alone would drastically increase local non-alumni support at both institutions. Just like the "war on I-4" arena football rivalry between Orlando and Tamps brings in fans for Arena football. Not only that but the increased fan support and visibility of the Big East brand in Florida would be VERY valuable in terms of the improving brand strength.

Disagree with your thought process. While UCF's recruiting is very good and improving, it hasn't been even with USF's. USF, just 2 years ago, had a top 25 recruiting class according to both scout and espn, I think. Has UCF ever approached a top 25 class? The only reason last year's class was ranked lower is because we had a very small class, something like 16 recruits, as opposed to the normal 25-30. Whether you want to admit it or not, putting UCF in the BE would not be beneficial for USF. And UCF would feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot. This is why Miami and FSU would most likely fight to keep USF out of ACC.

You are correct overall USF recruits at a higher level (largely because of it's BCS tag). My point was that we don't recruit head to head as often as some might think, and when we do the results are not as one sided as some would think. We have (up until Skip) run different systems that require different types of athletes, that alone reduced many of the recruiting problems that might occur with two large programs so close together. Thing you have to realize too, is that the Tampa and Orlando area's alone have enough talent to support our respective programs, not to mention the huge push UCF is making in Miami right now. I still feel that the excitment surrounding a UCF-USF rivalry would strengthen both programs as it would entice kids who grow up around it to stay home and play for those schools.
