"Memphis Beat" on TNT
Did anyone see the preview for it on TNT? Watching the Bobcats vs. Magic on TNT, and they just showed a preview for it and it looked really good. Can't wait. Looks like it's going to be a good show.

I think they did most of the filming in Louisiana and only a couple of times actually here in Memphis, but I agree, it does look good.

Yea, that sucks they can't film much of it here in Memphis. There was an article in the CA that addressed this issue and said the problem lies with the Tennessee Film Commission. States like Louisiana and Georgia offer better incentives to have movies and tv shows shot there.

It's a good start to have a show that features Memphis. CSI Miami and LV aren't filmed on location. But the next step is to push for local production. We have a great local film commission; but it hasn't always had the necessary support from the capitol.

Wasn't DJ Qualls in Hustle?

Yea, he seems to enjoy his time in Memphis. I have a friend who was on Beale one Saturday night and DJ was hanging around for a night.

There's a restaurant in town with a meal named after him. I think it's the Sekisui downtown with a "DJ Roll".

He's from Nashville and is most likely friends with Craig Brewer, so he definitely has an affinity towards the Bluff City.

This basically sounds like, "My Name is Earl the cop and I'm here to TCB in fake Memphis" to me.

i bet the dude is tired of being type-cast as a "my name is Earl" clone...shave his face, and slick back his hair...he looks like a totally different person.

alfre woodard was GREAT in First Contact...glad that she will be in it.

i just hope it doesn't suck.

Go Tigers!!!

RE: "Memphis Beat" on TNT
With regards to the State Film Commission not having its act together, I can't help but look at it from an angle where the state is trying to screw Memphis again or turn a blind eye. I've read some articles online that suggest this could be the case. Not saying it is but it looks like that from the outside. From what I've read, apparently Memphis is a desirable filming location b/c of all the historical backdrops. South Main is a very popular filming location due to the fact that nothing has been torn down. There also seems to some type of "love affair" that Hollywood has with Memphis. Most companies that want to film in Tennessee want to be film in Memphis. I don't think this is something that pleases the Film Commission who would probably like to have more of a balance of films being shot in places other than Memphis.

Looking at all three shows' IMDB profiles, both CSIs were at least partly filmed the cities that are portrayed on the show. Memphis Beat has only filmed in New Orleans. That said, they've only done one episode and if any other city besides Memphis is going to be Memphis then I'm glad that it's NO.

My understanding is the CSIs go on location briefly every season to film location shots that cant be replicated in the LA burb they film in. I'm thinking like swamp scenes and stuff... The CSI Miami hq building is an LA building that has been in several other TV series and movies, I think..

i just can't get excited about this. :/

first obviously because it wasn't even filmed in memphis, but mostly because it looks like it's going to be another one of those ridiculous caricatures written by people who've never lived in memphis. because of course all we do here is listen to elvis and eat bbq. on beale street.

hope it proves me wrong though. and i do love that jason lee.

It looks to have something like a "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" feel to it in relation to how it characterizes the city of Memphis. Southern city with plenty of characters and quirky plots....Andy Griffith 3.0.

All pub is good pub for the city right now. Even if they portray it in a bad light its always nice to have the name of your city in the title of a show on TNT.
