I'm not taking anything from what South did last season, great job beating up on Junior High teams. But I wouldn't be too quick to gloat, you've still not played an actual Division 1 team.

Just wait, its coming.

I doubt that we'll ever play an actual Division 1 team. The NFL will have opened its doors for us before that can happen.

I can readily understand why the other SBC fans don't have a clue what South's plan to transition to the FBS in 2013 are. They are so involved in their own teams and aren't necessarily interested in a start-up football program. USA's plan is to transition gradually from 2009-2013 (5 years) to '13. The athletic dept. and administration felt this was the right way to do it so they started from scratch. This is a program still very much in its infancy. By the time we enter into Sun Belt play (if we actually do), we feel like we can compete, but maybe not so much at first. No doubt playing at the FBS level will be a learning experience, but by then we will have played some FBS teams. Georgia State plays their first season next year against a FSC schedule with the exception of the MONEY game against SEC member Alabama. South just happened to take a different route. BTW, South Alabama is the ONLY current charter member of the original SUN BELT CONFERENCE. All of the others are "johnny-come-latelys.

Yes, you're absolutely right. As far as football is concerned South Alabama is JUST a start-up program, and we know that we don't have a history yet. We get reminded of that every day, but things are going to eventually get better. USA officials believe that the way we are starting up is the right way to go as someone posted before. We know that some fans like yourself really do not want us playing football in the SBC. Heck that's the way most USA fans felt about Troy State entering the Belt when y'all did, but it turned out good for the league. I pull for Troy in football and have since the SBC started football. I have family from all over the state that are alums. I hope that if Troy and USA continue to be members of the league we can have a good rivalry.

Forgive us if we are a might giddy over starting up a football program, but we have the funds and the facilities and a place to play until an on-campus stadium is built.

oh im excited about South coming in to the league, gives me one more game i can make each year. besides, we need an in-state rival other than UAB. just dont get the big head, because i'd be willing to bet we clobber the Jags for atleast the first two seasons.
