Yes we won division championships, but until that involves an automatic bid into the NCAA or at least a bye into the championship game, you may as well have finished 13th for all the good it has done us. I asked LRTrojan at the ladies game yesterday how many times in seven years our men's team has made it past the first round. Without looking, you want to make a guess? He looked it up, and in seven years we've lost in the first round five times. We've made it to the second game two times. And never even made it to the tournament finals. So much for division championships. There is no way we can sugar coat that record.
Want more of the same? Well, there's a strong possibility you'll get it unless Chris gets tired of our team sitting home, while the Westerns and others continue to go to the postseason. Very disturbing.
Some of the facts above are incorrect... in the last 7 years, we have played 2 games in conf tourney 4 times and have been knocked out in our 1st game 3 times.
2004 => vs ASU, vs UNO
2006 => vs UNT, vs USA
2008 => vs FAU, vs WKU
2009 => vs DU, vs USA
LRTrojan was looking it up in the tournament press guide or program, and I assumed he was correct. I'll look it up myself. In any event, we have not been in the final game in years. That I'm pretty sure of.

I was pleased to tell him that I was not . . . not one year after winning 23 games and two division championships. He pointed out that we couldn't afford to buy out a four-year contract even if Chris wanted to do so. BTW, he pointed out that while "some" read our board, neither Steve nor Joe nor, most importantly, Chris, do.
I don't know if Chris or Steve read it themselves, but don't think for a moment that they don't know what is being said here. They might tell him that don't read it. I have gotten a phone call from one of Chris' underlings for something I said on the board, and that Chris wanted to talk to me about it. I went out and talked to him. It was when the Jack was getting ready to open, and I and some others were bitching about the ticket prices.
As far as Shields being fired, I didn't expect that to happen. Anybody stupid enough to give a coach who hasn't been to a post season game of any kind, a five year contract deserves to be stuck with him when things go south. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't extend him for another year after this one. Obviously this administration isn't concerned about having a contending program, or they'd be asking for some of this Obama stimulus money, or counterfeiting their own in order to pay him off. If he stays here twenty years, this program won't be a damn bit better than it is now. Enjoy the graduation ceremonies this year fellows. That's all you'll ever get to enjoy.

I'll have to go back and see what I was looking at then.

I don't know what I was looking at Doc, but the guy is right. Four first round wins for the Trojans, one and out three times. I went back to the tournament program book, and it told me an entirely different thing today. Oldtimers cutting in.

AD 101....
Never give a coach a contract you can't afford to buy out.
