CUSA standings and scenarios 2/27/2010
Top 5 teams won today. It's safe to say that the top 4 teams do not have easy games left. Good job by the conference schedulers to keep the drama to the end.

Standings as of 2/27 (and remaining games in parenthesis)
1. UTEP 13-1 (@Marshall (TUES) and hosts UAB)
2. Memphis 11-3 (@ UAB and hosts Tulsa)
3. UAB 11-3 (hosts Memphis and @UTEP)
4. Marshall 10-4 (hosts UTEP (tues) and @SMU)
5. Tulsa 9-5 (hosts SMU and @Memphis)
6. SMU 7-7 (@ Tulsa and hosts Marshall)
7. Southern Miss 6-8 (hosts Tulane and @ ECU)
7. Houston 6-8 (Rice and @ Tulane)
9. UCF 5-9 (hosts ECU and @ Rice)
10. ECU 3-11 (@UCF and hosts Southern Miss)
11. Tulane 2-12 (@ Southern Miss and hosts Houston)
12. Rice 1-13 (@Houston and hosts Tulane)

If the tournament were held tomorrow
Here are the seedings: (biggest change is SMU moving up to #6 seed)
1. UTEP
2. Memphis (wins tiebreaker with UAB due to head to head win)
3. UAB
4. Marshall
5. Tulsa
6. SMU
7. Southern Miss (wins tie over Houston due to head to head)
8. Houston
9. UCF
10. ECU
11. Tulane
12. Rice

So here are the tournament matchups if it were to start tomorrow:

Wednesday
(5) Tulsa vs. (12) Rice
(6) SMU vs. (11) Tulane
(7) Southern Miss vs. (10) ECU
(8) Houston vs. (9) UCF

Thursday
(1) UTEP vs. Houston-UCF winner
(2) Memphis vs. Southern Miss - ECU winner
(3) UAB vs. SMU -Tulane winner
(4) Marshall vs. Tulsa-Rice winner

Friday (assuming favorites win)
(1) UTEP vs. (4) Marshall
(2) Memphis vs. (3) UAB

It is uncanny how the top 6 seeds are all playing each other for the final week. Then throw in that the 2 seed (we the Blazers) plays both the 1 and 3 seeds in the final week... Arguably both rivalry games... This is one heck of a week in college B-ball in C*USA.

I think it's unlikely that Smoo will hold on to the 6 seed. Southern Miss and Houston both have a great shot to finish 8-8. No matter what though, our C*USA Quarterfinal Game will NOT be a cakewalk.
