#6 Mercer vs. #3 Belmont

A re-match from last years opening round game that Belmont won by a point at the buzzer.

Mercer has several injuries (Emerson, Florence, Mills) that will hopefully be fixed by the time Thursday is here. The MU team will not be the same if everyone is not ready to go.

I'm confident in the match-up even though Belmont swept Mercer in the regular season (both close scores, one in OT). Mercer only lost by 4 a few days ago without Florence playing, and Emerson going down at the end. Plus they injured Mills in the game, but he fought through it.

Hopefully we'll get some news between now and Thursday on Emerson and his recovery.

This will be a good game if you guys are healthy. If not, I don't think you guys will be able to beat us with such a short bench even though it would probably be a really close game. If I remember correctly, the past 4 times we have played you guys, two have been decided in overtime, one was a last second shot, and one was a 4 point game, all of which we came out on top.
Keep me updated on Emerson's health. That will have a huge impact on this game.

I'd say unless a doctor literally won't let him play, he'll be out there. It's the end of his college career and I'd have to believe it would take a LOT to keep him off the court. Possibly get him some glasses or a mask if necessary. I'm sure Emerson himself knows right now what's going to happen, but we can only speculate.

Faithful, thanks for 'rooting' for us. We need a lot of that from the home crowd too if Mercer is going to win! I'm sure seeing belmont go down would not disappoint the ETSU crowd.

This a rematch of last year...i think the bears pull it out. I could be wrong...Byrd is the devil. But I'm picking Mercer.

What a game is all I can say! The Mercer players were just inspired. I haven't seen this type of performance since who knows when. Well coached, enduring two seperate Belmont leads of 14 and 13... and the players were just on fire. They have the fire in their eyes. I'm so out of energy right now I can barely type.

EDIT -- it better be a sellout tomorrow, fan1! Oh yeah and what an incredible crowd, the MU faithful really gave us the edge. It can still get better though with a sellout tomorrow hopefully...

Thanks guys... that was a WAR as expected. Both teams are bruised and beat up. It feels good to finally get one from Belmont when it counts.

I don't know understand how we (KSU) can beat you guys twice and be so inconsistent otherwise! You sure have a tough group down there.

I think I've decided that I'll be pulling for you guys for the rest of the weekend. Not a big fan of Ingle, but not really a fan of anyone else either. Either you guys or KSU :)
