My dad talks about this place. I might vaguely remember it. When did it go away, and what stands at the location now?

When I was a student at Memphis State I'd go there frequently for lunch.

They had plate lunches as well as Italian dishes.

I'd order half & half; half Spaghetti & half Ravioli & they'd bring toasted garlic bread with the meal.

Berretta's BBQ Drive In opened in 1933 and was in operation & closed in 1985. It was a large restaurant, one side had a long curved bar and several booths with low lighting. Walk through the cased opening and you were in a brightly lit family style restaurant. The menu was extensive - Italian fare and almost anything you could think of. They also had a big car-hop area where you drove under the awnings and read the menu posted there. When ready to order, you flashed your headlights and a waiter came over to take your order. Berretta's was very popular - especially with the high school crowds.

Tiger87 .......... Redbanksdog was kind enough to send me the CA story from 1985 explaining what happened to end Berretta's stay at 3477 Park Ave.

Now I remember. Park and Highland - SW corner I think. It was there when I started at the university. I don't think I ever went though.

Interesting picture of Messick student Dean Jernigan. He sure helped Memphis as the years went by.

They reopened in the Spring of 1986 in Bartlett. Location 5811 Stage Rd., that would be right at the Railroad Tracks. If anyone ever lived in Bartlett they will know where that is at. 04-cheers
