1. Pitt**** set you straight on the first item there. It's surprising that someone apparently close to the university didn't know those things. Apparently Letsgobucs also didn't know these things, which is even *more* surprising.

I guess you aren't on campus much man. 50 percent of the university is not from this area. People are from Knoxville, north carolina, virginia, parts of Georgia and Florida. Yes, no one knows where cardinal park is.. I had 2 upper classmen baketball players ask me one day where it was. A rookie ball stadium isnt much of a cash cow. So not many people outside of the area attend these games. If you have lived here for a while, then you would know where it is.

I attend ETSU baseball games to watch a family member on the team. His High School had better facilities. ETSU needs a new stadium.

Definately agree. It's awesome to have games in the Dome. Teams looks forward to that, and noise is a factor because of the echo effect. The Atlantic Sun baseball conference is a much tougher conference than the atlantic sun basketball one. Check the rpi's. Not even close

If someone wants to go to a baseball game they will find out where it is and go. I doubt most students would know where the on campus field is when it gets built. Baseball game fans at a school like etsu= girl friends, family and die hard baseball fans, so in short not alot.

Your right. There is not a poll that has more that 25 teams, but there are composite rankings that SID's use to rank teams. Composite is based of teams rpi's strength pf schedule, and quality wins. As you can see, St. Johns is ranked 34th as stated last weekend, b4 ETSU beat them. So, yes teams can be stated as ranked when they are outside the top 25.

People will be able to see the feild from campus. It is directly across the street from McDonalds and Poor Richards. No trees or anything blocking it. Kinda hard to miss. Cardinal park is all the way at the end of State of Franklin, unseen by students.

What I am saying is they could put it in the area between the old library and the Student Centerv if it would fit and 99% of the students would keep on walking.

This isn't the field of dreams, you can build it but they still ain't coming.

Actually, you're quite wrong. It completely depends on the poll. If you go to ncaa.com (an official NCAA web-site), where they list rankings for NCAA sports, there are five polls listed. They are the NCBWA, Baseball America, USA Today/ESPN, Collegiate Baseball, and Rivals. Both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball rank the top 30 teams. In each of those polls, there are definitely teams ranked #26. The other three polls rank the top 25. In the NCBWA poll, we are receiving votes. No one said we were actually ranked. It was stated that we were receiving votes. That is correct. So, basically it depends on the poll, but it is quite possible to be the #26 team in the land.

I agree if all things are equal it is better to have an on-campus facility. My problems with the new yard are based on the order in which it is built and the way it will be built.

However, what is an on-campus facility? Certainly the softball field is built on land that while right next to the campus was never considered part of the campus before. Same as this baseball field.

I will also say that when baseball was on-campus, I would go to games and I was the only person there in the stands at times.

Another thought- remember the black eye with the softball game against the USA team- how they originally offered the game to ETSU, who turned them down, only to have Milligan enjoy perhaps their most celebrated athletic event ever by using Cardinal Park for the venue.

At the time I said ETSU had to retailate. You simply couldn't have the City not tell ETSU that Milligan was now going to use ETSU's baseball facility for the game at some point. My thought was to use Jim O'Brien Field or Hunter Wright for a bit.

I wonder if this isn't ETSU's plan for retaliation.

I would think the Johnson City could care less about ETSU using Cardinal Park or not. You want to drive to Elizabethton or Bristol, Kingsport whatever to play? Good luck with that you probably wouldn't even get half the girl friends and family to show up that might at least go to Cardinal Park.

I understand that. But it would do two things.

First, it would send a message to the City that ETSU wasn't their whipping boy.

Second, it would increase attention for ETSU in neighboring cities.

The worst thing that could happen is that instead of 200 people attending the games, 100 people would.

Good job baseball Bucs. I wish you could whoop Tennessee again. I have a new name for the orange...Big orange chickens. I think our winning streak is up to four... I really don't think that is so dominating that the Vols are afraid.

Overall...I have to admit Tennessee owns us. UT leads the all-time series with the Bucs 55-13 I think.

Okay, but all that means is that in 2052 if they play us, ETSU will tie it up!

Seriously, though, we should play this up. The fact Tennessee won't play ETSU is huge.

While I am a Bucs fan...I am also a UT alum. And as a UT alum, I think the Vols' baseball program is an embarrassment! Raleigh should be sent out with more ire directed at him than Lame Kiffin got. At least Kiffin won while he was there and built something going forward. Raleigh has totally destroyed all history and credibility of the program and offended several baseball alumni. He is running scared from programs such as ETSU.

I'm on campus all the time - not every day, but most days. Furthermore, I happen to know where ETSU students come from, and have had this information since well before you were born, likely.......
Shaw had it right - again - if somebody wants to see the baseball game, they'll figure it out. Also, college students (even those at ETSU) know fairly well how to google and mapquest and so forth.

"A rookie ball stadium isnt much of a cash cow." What the hey is that supposed to mean? Are you an MBA wannabe? What the hey does not being a cash cow have to do with where ETSU plays baseball??

Finally, I guess it's not *too* surprising, however, that if ETSU has "baketball" [sic] players, then *they* may not know where anything is......

The Bucs outscore SIU-e 38-5 in the first 2 games then lose by 6 in the third game. Ugh.

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
Analogously, and fascinatingly, though off-topic, what about the Dallas/Knicks turnaround between games between them? Dallas beat the Knicks by 50 the last time they played (largest victory margin in franchise history), but NY won by 34 last night - in Dallas, for an 84-point turnaround between games, an NBA record. The 34-point loss also was the largest margin of loss ever by a team which had come into the game with at least 13 wins in a row.

Don't flame me for posting this; the absurdity of that turnaround is just head-turning, even in the NBA......

And I think one can see how the Bucs losing that third game would remind someone of this just last night.......
