RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
I followed the game on Live Stats this afternoon via the etsubucs website. Granted, a game the Bucs should win, but they did, which is good, and the weather out there stunk. We'll see some other starters besides Byrne & McNally in this series, which will be at least a little telling about the lower part of the pitching staff. The interview w/ Skole on the radio this morning was good -- he's a much more likeable guy than Bartow, IMO.

Sorry if this doesn't fit this forum. (I didn't read half of it)

But, college baseball would be much more entertaining if they were allowed to have beer vendors. While baseball in and of it self is not exciting to me what so ever, getting drunk and heckling the batter is. This is a staple at many major/minor league parks, I don't understand why it can't work at the college level. Just my 2 cents, I'm sure that none of you agree.

Bucs win two more against St. Peters today. 17-3 in the first game and 7-6 in the second, Bucs were down 5-0 in the second game and came back to win in the 9th.

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
Basketball,
Although I don't necessarily agree that I would go to the games & get hammered, it would be great if we had beer there, for Bucs or Cards games. When the Cards had beer a few years ago I enjoyed a couple of Icehouse(s) when I went to a few games that summer. Icehouse is not exactly my favorite, but better than nothing. But alas, it was taken away the next year when Vance Spinks inexplicably embezzled from the coffers and the Cardinals got a new GM. I guess others on here could enlighten us on that situation. Although I can understand no beer @ Bucs games (NCAA rules, etc) it seems odd that it's not available at the Appy League games. Are there any other teams in our area that sell beer @ the park?

The Bucs swept the doubleheader from St. Peter's today. St. Pete's is not that good, but a win is a win.

If beer was sold, I would make it to a few games, but this is the Bible belt. There would be churches picketing.

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
Well, I don't remember any churches picketing the sale of beer @ the JC Cardinal games back in 04(?), or whenever it was beer was available. I don't think that would happen @ all.

What I learned, quite rapidly, was that people going to JC Cardinal games drinking beer are not the obnoxious, scream at the other team, yell @ the umpire type. They really just want to watch some baseball, and a beer is fine on a hot day watching a baseball game. I know, that's not what some people on here want, but that's the way it was. If they served it again, there would barely be a whimper. And it likely wouldn't even sell all that well -- but it would get me to more games...

What's your point here, poster?

That I singlehandley, from Pittsburgh, organized a plot that would send the ever-so-innocent Vance Spinks to prison for no reason whatsoever?

And you're using, again, the out of context post you saved from the dead board?

Only in this case anyone can see this saved post you're now using for GOD KNOWS WHAT is an illustration of how absurd your allegations were and continue to be.

You truly are a sad little man.

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
Go, years ago, I sold tickets for the Cardinals. We would try to sell blocks of 30 and 60 to various churches.

This was one of the experiences that convinced me how terrible a sports town this was; with responses like "I always thought the Cardinals were in St. Louie" and "I don't know nuthin' bowt bawl."

But regardless, the worst instance, by far, was when we'd try to sell our tickets to churches.

My favorite- "HOW DARE YOU ASK US FOR THE LORD'S MONEY?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

They might not picket the games, though I wouldn't put it past them. But you can rest assured the churches of the area would quit buying tickets in groups, if not individuals as well.

Is there ANY church in east Tennessee that doesn't believe if you don't worship exactly like they do you'll burn in hell?

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
My point was simple: that you have a pattern of threatening violence and so forth. (And yes, we know some of it is "shtick" - tasteless though that may be.) Remember, you gave out your address in Pittsburgh once (at least) on the old board and invited someone (don't remember who, but it doesn't matter) to come up and fight. And that time clearly it was NOT shtick......
And I didn't "save" it. It came from that thread about DeChellis a couple of weeks ago, although it indeed was from a link thereon to that earlier thread. I don't "save" anything like that.

And although I don't know the details of Spinks and the Cardinals money, I will point out that he was apparently found guilty, or at least plead so, as I recall. (That's from memory only, the JC Press's archives no longer go back very far.) BUT.........I can tell you that he burned someone close to me financially, completely separate from the Cardinals situation - or maybe it was connected if his financial "entanglements" were so severe that he was trying to 'steal' from Peter to pay Paul.........
"Ever-so-innocent"? I hardly think so..........

RE: ETSU Baseball is Back
Well, they didn't picket in '04, so I don't know why they would picket now. And the churches still came to the games that year. In fact, one night I was there for 'Booze it and Lose it' night, and that night, no beer was served.

Don't all churches everywhere believe if you don't go to their church, you're fundamentally flawed and could possibly end up in hell?

In other words Pitt, that's not unique to east TN.

Very funny. Can't find those Saguaro cacti anywhere.

Johnson City is THE worst place find a large stretch of wind-blown flat land with no trees... And for that reason, I'm moving back to Oklahoma.

ETSU Baseball won 2 out of 3 games against #30 St. Johns this weekend. The Bucs are 8-2 on the year so far.

Thats quite a feat, but whoever is the baseball AD needs to quit saying ETSU has beaten two different ranked teams this year. #30 and #34 are NOT ranked teams. It's called a top 25 for a reason.

Yeah it is called the top 25 for a reason, but the fact of the matter is, is that there are hundreds of division I schools out there and beating the 30th or 50th ranked team out of hundreds of schools is pretty good. I can tell you one thing... St Johns has a great baseball team and I know they wished they would have won 2 out of three against the BUCS. They were undefeated coming into this weekend series beating up on Michigan, Minnesota and Illinois. These teams are no slouches. So hats off to the Bucs. They are going to have a great year and many more great years to come. Go Bucs!

The ETSU AD put the Red Storms ranking on there because if you go to St. Johns website, it is all over the place in the baseball articles and press releases. Tennessee and Vanderbilt both wished they were ranked 30th!
