Florida Gulf Coast (Official Game Thread) - 01/30/10
Start of the homestand for the Owls. This is the key to our season. We have matched up very evenly with FGCU over the years, and we need this win like no other. A win moves us to within one game of .500 in conference play, and continues our forward momentum. We need to keep playing as a team, and continue our defensive intensity. Our zone has really given some teams problems. Would love to see our press force a few more turnovers, however what I like about our press is that we are not allowing teams layups when they break it. The other team is still having to set up an offense of some sort, which is key.

Wish I could be at the game. Hopefully people will start coming back out now that we are making some headway in the win column.

I will be there. Looking at the stats, our starters have got a lot more minutes. Which is actually nice to see. I feel like now we have an actual starting lineup.

We have some momentum. Three game road winning streak leading into what I would call our most important home stand since we began in Division I. I think we are beginning to see signs of what we all thought this team could be. It's an exciting time to be an Owls fan. I am so pumped for this game. I'm hoping for a big crowd. Here's to continued success, and what I believe will be an Owls victory tonight.

RE: Florida Gulf Coast (Official Game Thread) - 01/30/10
This year has been a rollercoaster ride. We went from high hopes at the beginning of the year by competing well with Notre Dame, St. Louis, and a variety of road games...to absolutely struggling to start our conference play, to winning 3 in a row on the road in conference (and could have been 4 in a row in Upstate). I have stopped expecting what will happen with this team, and just take it as it comes. I feel good about our chances on any given night, but as young as we are (2 freshman, 2 sophomore, 1 junior transfer as our main minute takers) we can be up and down.

Would be great if we could start this homestand out with a win.

I believe we win this one by 10+ tonight. We have better athletes.

Started off hot, got out to a double digit lead, and then we just stopped hitting. In the past 4 minutes we have missed 1 dunk, 2 layups, the front end of a 1 and 1, and 2 other free throws. That is 12 points we gave up. JMac playing a heck of a first half, and surprisingly shooting the ball well. He hasn't got hot in a while, but he has double digits in the first half...he is the only one scoring for the Owls in the past 5 minutes.

Pretty decent 1st half. FGCU is a solid team, and we will have to play well to beat them. They are killing us on the offensive boards.

Yea. Started off with that 10-0 run.. although we lost the lead I never felt we completely lost composure. Lets hope for a strong finish.

Make our foul shots and we win. 73-63 with about a minute remaining.

Yes, another win....we played a very good offensive second half, and made enough defensive plays to get the win. FGCU's almost 5 point play and lucky 3 pointer gave them a chance, but in the end we made enough foul shots to win. Great win for the Owls. We are 1 game away from .500. JMac gets the game ball for sure...he played a great game, and Markeith really played within himself. Didn't force shots.

4th win in a row. Really important game. Its imperative we beat the teams we're better than. Come out with a win Monday and we're .500 in conference.

I agree Corn. We just stopped hitting our shots for a while, and took too many jump shots. Basketball is a game of run, and we never let them get away from us. When it was time for us to step up our game in the last 10 minutes, we did exactly that.

Exciting time to be an Owl fan. Coach Ingle in a crutch was a strange sight...we are used to seeing him run up and down the sideline. Hope his back heals up soon.

Yea I felt bad for Coach Ingle. Lets hope these wins can ease his pain :)

A win against Stetson would go a LONG way to clinching a tourney birth.. lets hope we're up to the task.

That is true senior leadership right there 84. He hasn't been getting a lot of playing time lately, but when he got his opportunity he took advantage of it and helped out his teammates. Ladaris had a rough game, and we didn't miss a beat because of JMac's presence. He was all over the place...getting steals, help defense, knocking down jump shots...We wouldn't have won the game without JMac's contributions...

It reminded me of the north greenville game. He just came in and led the team by example. He started running hard, diving for loose balls and going for every board like his life depended on it. it became contagious and we ended up winning big after a slow start.

attendance was 1637...not horrible considering i remember going to weekend games and it feeling like there were only the parents of the cheerleaders at the game.

I was a little shocked by that number myself. I was pleased by it don't get me wrong, but I would have placed it around 1200 or so just by looking at the crowd. The problem that we face is simple. The community is coming out. It is great to see with tons of little kids. That's not the issue. The issue is actually the students. If the students would just come out, on a night like last night, we could have most of the lower bowl full in my opinion. There are two student problems. First of all, obviously they need to show up, plain and simple. But secondly, we need to unify our students. On any given night, I'd be willing to bet there are as many, if not a few less students sitting somewhere else other than the "student sections". To me, those are the two biggest problems we face. I am a student, but am not campus much anymore because I have an internship. I think a lot of it is simply the fact that the kids don't know about the games. It has gotten better over the years, but I feel could still be improved upon. Anyways, it WAS a good crowd last night, too bad they didn't get into it more. Soon come I suppose.

Should be interesting to see what happens on Monday night. That would be a good night as any for the students to come out. Everyone should be on campus for classes, and there isn't anything going on Monday nights.

Hoping for a huge crowd on Monday. Wish our marketing department would really paint the campus to try and get a turnout. All these students need is a taste, and they will see the excitement that going to a game will bring. We are a young university still trying to build loyalty...it will come in time.
