ASun Team Play by Play Announcers
I have heard some good play by play announcers and some really poor ones in the ASun. I saw on ETSUs board that they were making fun of Lipscomb's "put it in the books" guy. So I want to know from everyone, who is the worst and best announcers in our league. I know there are Mercer, ETSU, and KSU fans visiting here sometimes. I would like to hear your thoughts too.

I really enjoyed listening to ETSUs guys a couple of years ago on ASun TV, but I haven't had a chance to listen since then. DLU's "put it in the book" guy drives me crazy. Not necessarily for his catch phrase, it is more his style. I heard Jax' recently for the first time and he sounded a lot like the DLU announcer.

Team Seaman for DLU drives me crazy. They are bigger homers than Greg Sage. I think that Kevin Ingram is pretty solid. The Kevin and Scott tandem is my favorite. Other than us though, I have never listened to another set of ASun radio guys.

I have ASun TV through the Bruin Club, but I haven't even used it. Does the radio play-by-play sync up to it. I usually just listen to Kevin and work around the house.

Greg Sage bothers me a bit with all his Oooohs and Ohhhhhs without any description. I too prefer the Kevin and Scott combo. Mostly the video and audio are sync'd up pretty well on the Asun.tv stuff. The video production frequently could be improved since most of them are students. Sometimes they decide to stay on a floor level corner view instead of an overhead which makes it hard to follow the action. The graphics (score etc..) are very inconsistent as well. Changing the settings in Windows Media player really helped the overall performance and had it buffering much less freq.

Haha, I agree Fan1. I watched the BU @ Jax game on Asun tv, and was floored by the awful commentator.

Ditto on the JU commentators. DLU are pretty horrible as well.

Everyone's announcer is a hometown announcer. And I have no problem with that. I've only heard the belmont guys a couple of times but they seem to be the least lame.

I didn't like Stetson's (even though they were very complimentary of our coach and team) - they could never get anyone's names right. They mispronounced half of the names...Apparently Matt Heramb is pronounced HOAR-AMB. And then they kept call all of our guards Kurtis Woods. I mean, they mixed up Kelvin McConnell and Kurtis Woods...they don't look anything alike, much less noticing that they have DIFFERENT numbers. Kelvin is short and stocky, and Kurtis is taller and lean. It isn't even close.

I have no problem with ETSU's announcer's, and obviously enjoy our own KSU announcers. I think ours are knowledgeable and work well together without trying to over-do a shtick like most small time announcers try to do.

It should be pointed out that no one in the conference has what I would refer to is a talented announcer. ETSU used to have a great announcer. His name was Chip Kessler. He honestly reminded me of a major league baseball announcer. A great voice. A good knowledge of the game. He used the power of his words to create a great play by play of the action. The listener was never lost in terms of what was going on (unlike the current ETSU announcer) He wasn't cutesy. He had a wealth of facts but he didn't waste time feeding his audience the history of a player's foul shooting percentage during night games while there is action going on the floor in real time. He was a long time ETSU radio announcer but alas the ETSU administration screwed him over during Stanton's early years as president and he left. I tell you it's like we are being led by Hugo Chavez.

Jonathan Seamon was the AD back in the NAIA days. When DLU went on the radio in the mid-80's, he just put himself on. When he quit as AD after the NCAA jump, he became . . . wait for it . . . "Family Life Minister" at a large suburban Nashville church.

He also does play-by-play for Lipscomb High School football.

As far as I know, Kevin Ingram is the only play-by-play guy in the conference whose past experience is in radio and not athletics administration/media relations. He's also the best play-by-play guy in the conference. Coincidence?
