So, care to explain Southeast Missouri State at Miami? That's a 9 hour drive!

My assumption is that the AD's have some say in these non-TV games. Plus, you have to be excited about a Redhawks vs. Redhawks matchup!

No, you're not? Well, maybe ESPN is trying to help your road schedule be a little more manageable next season since you won't do it yourselves. Think of it as an intervention.

RE: BracketBuster
The ESPNU site has KSU listed as the 7th team. That would put us on ESPNU and not ESPN2. On the other side they have us matched with Western Carolina. I guess we will find out soon!

Andy Katz's take on the KSU-Western Carolina game:

Western Carolina at Kent State (ESPNU, 8 ET)
My take: Western Carolina, which will make its BracketBusters debut, is in a competition against Appalachian State and Charleston for the Southern title. WCU did beat Louisville on the road so you know this team can play. Kent State crushed Akron and could be the favorite in the MAC. Former Ohio coach Larry Hunter coaches Western and goes back to his old stomping grounds against Kent.

Just imagine if kent hadn't lost those games to Miami, bgsu, green bay, and northeastern. We'd be a top 40 rpi team easily in my eyes. Coulda woulda shoulda....

Well just imagine if Simpson dunks that ball in Miami and the refs dont screw up the ending to the GB game.

As far as getting Western Carolina goes, I hope our guys remember last year. Oh and it should be interesting next year in the return game with Porrini (I think that's his name) playing for us.

Here are some notable games the Western Carolina Catamounts have played:

Two common opponents: Both beat Wofford & Samford

Spanked by Texas.
They beat Louisville on the road.
Beat Col. of Charleston at home. C of C has the best record in the So Con.

I agree, but it will be just like watching any other MAC game.

haha i enjoyed reading that more than you could ever imagine. As a whole the MAC should be offended at their distain towards our "flagship program". Complete sarcasim.

I know a little bit about Sports TV production, but does anyone know the cost involved in doing games in high-def? Is it just cameras or also production equipment? The Journalism program has state of the art equipment, so I am surprised the "Kent State Sports Network" can't do the FSN games in HD.

Great questions... I've always been interested in tv stuff so I did a little serching about the Kent State Sports Network. Found a good article from this past November.

KENT STATE SPORTS NETWORK

Interesting note- The school has purchased a satellite truck for uplinks which leads me to believe that in the future not only will broadcasts be on kzone and local tv, but they have the capability of broadcasting live say on fsn or sto.

Also another article when Franklin Hall opened in late 2007...

Franklin Hall

Found a little info about single game production truck rates...

The cost of producing HD only 9-11k
SD 7k
Both Formats 12-13k

So 5-6k to have HD is a pretty big chunk of change especially for smaller conferences.

I'm going to try to get some more info on this stuff next time I head up to Kent.

Ok, someone needs to calarify. Why is Akron being refered to as the MAC's flagship program?

AlphaFlash, that "flagship program" is the title given them several weeks ago by Elton Alexander.

RE: BracketBuster
7links,
Thanks for the info.

During football, the FSOhio games at Kent State and Akron were produced by Kent State. At the end of Saturday's broadcast, Reghi referred to the Kent State Sports Network, so I assume it is the same during basketball season.

I know Sportstime Ohio does have the capability from obviously doing Indians games. I don't believe they have done any Cleveland State games in HD, but they did do select HS playoff games in HD. The early-round games at Infocision were in HD as were the three title games in Canton.

About Akron,
I read a good bit of that VCU board. I hope Akron beats those crybabies. What has VCU done to get its fans so high and mighty? Whoopee, you beat an overseeded Duke team a few years ago. VCU busted my bracket and many others last year when they couldn't beat an UCLA team that had to fly across the country to Philly.
