MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State’s Markeith Cummings picked up his second Atlantic Sun Player of the Week Award after leading the Owls to back-to-back road wins in league play, the conference office announced on Monday.
Cummings posted a spectacular week for the Owls, leading Kennesaw State to back-to-back conference road wins for the first time in four years. The redshirt freshman averaged 24.5 points and seven rebounds as he guided the Owls to wins against FGCU and Stetson. Cummings scored 30 points against Eagles including the first 17 points of the game. He joined Lehigh’s C.J. McCollum as the only two freshmen in the nation to own multiple 30-point games. Cummings registered 32 points against Belmont on December 3.
On Sunday, he torched Stetson for a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. On the week, the Birmingham, Ala. native shot 56.3 percent (18-for-32) from the field, made 7-of-10 free-throws and also averaged 2.5 assists. With these two performances, Cummings pushed his scoring average to 17.7 points per game, good enough to rank fifth in the conference and tops among all freshmen in the country.

Mick Hedgepeth, Belmont (So. - Forward - Crossville, Ala. – Accounting) – Hedgepeth tallied his fourth and fifth career double-doubles this week in leading Belmont to victories against Campbell, 66-55, Thursday and ETSU, 100-89, Saturday. The sophomore forward recorded 12 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and two blocked shots against the Camels. Hedgepeth also set career-highs in free throws made (10) and free throws attempted (14).
Jonathan Rodriguez, Campbell (Sr. - Forward - Bayamon, Puerto Rico - Sport Management) - Rodriguez broke Campbell's career scoring mark on Thursday at Belmont, then scored 26 points (13-15 free throws) to help the Camels defeat Lipscomb Saturday (86-82) and remain in first place in the A-Sun standings.
Ben Smith, Jacksonville (Sr. - Guard - Dublin, Ga. - Sports Administration) Smith led the Dolphins to their sixth and seventh consecutive wins last week against USC Upstate and UNF. The senior guard racked up 15 second half points against Spartans and posted a prefect day from the free throw line against UNF going 10-for-10.
Josh Slater, Lipscomb (Jr. - Guard - Nashville, Tenn. – Corporate Management) – Slater averaged 21 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in Lipscomb's two conference games last week. Slater shot 54.5 percent from the floor and had a 2.0 assist-to-turnover (10/5) ratio. Slater scored 16 and grabbed eight rebounds while dishing out seven assists against ETSU Thursday evening.
Daniel Emerson, Mercer (Sr. - Forward - St. Mary's, Ga. - Business) - Emerson averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week. He shot 63% from the field (12-19). His 19 pts/14 rebounds against FGCU marked his 11th double-double of the season.
