mid conf season thoughts
I think any of the top 6 teams right now have a chance to make a run in the tournament however, it appears Campbell and Belmont would be the least likely (of the top 6) at this point to win the tourny . Campbell has little inside presence which led to our domination of the boards and second chance points. They play defense with great energy but they were gassed at the end our our game which does not bode well for 3 games in 3-4 days.
ETSU's win at lip is helpful and enjoyable just because they're lipscomb. It does demonstrate ETSU's potential and the likelyhood that we'll struggle against them tomorrow.
Jax, lip, and Mercer are all what we thought they'd be (to paraphrase Dennis Green).
As for Belmont, Welcome back Keaton (5-6 from 3). We still had a 7 minute lapse in the second half which allowed the spitting camels back into it, but it was nice to see the guys fight back down the stretch and hit some free throws.
Our offense is still not very good, but hopefully the young guys are getting some valuable experience. Clark did more driving against campbell, and hopefully Johnson will look to score more. We really need more dribble penetration to be effective. I didn't expect us to really compete for the championship and not much has changed that expectation. Hopefully we'll get a few more wins against some teams ahead of us since we have 5 more chances in a row now.

RE: mid conf season thoughts
I am very undecided on what ETSU has it in them to be this year. I do, however, consider Belmont a threat.

By the way, I didn't see the game, what are the bruins thoughts on Campbell?

They played tenacious defense against us, but tired quite a bit in the second half. So, I don't think they have the bench to pull it off...especially in the tournament. On offense they did some nice weak-side cutting to the basket for some open shots. J Rod got some points, but he didn't seem to play particularly well.

I agree with your assessment. I don't think Belmont is the strongest team at this point. We are probably 4-5 with a great upside to a promising future.

Ask Lipscomb what they thought about J-Rod.

RE: mid conf season thoughts
Campbell's press is the key. If you can handle their press you have a good chance to win. I personally think it is wide open. It has been proven already this season that anyone can be beat on a given night. We don't have one team that is running through everyone. Even Stetson dominated Mercer the other night...it wasn't like they won at the buzzer...they led by double digits the whole game.
We will have a better idea of the pretenders and contenders during the second half. The first half everyone is simply getting their bearings and finding their rotations, because we have a lot of young teams this year...Belmont, Kennesaw, ETSU are the main teams playing young guys, but pretty much every team except for Mercer is heavily reliant on some young talent. Should be a wild second half of the season.
