RE: Foreign recruits
Selective reading, GB....

Quote:McDermott dismissed guard Mike Taylor, the team's leading scorer in 2006-07, after just one season following a series of legal troubles. But the biggest hit came when Wesley Johnson shocked Iowa State with his decision to transfer in the spring of 2008. Johnson has since found a home with No. 5 Syracuse.

Players leaving programs is not uncommon whereever they come from. What this tells me is what I've been saying all along, there is a lot of untapped talent overseas if Hawks would expand his horizons beyond the midwest US. Unfortunately he seems unable or unwilling to do that.

RE: Foreign recruits
Quick question... where exactly is the money for the overseas plane trips to make the recruiting visits supposed to come from?

Here it comes, "I think out of the box, it'll come from NCAA championships when we recruit said star Greek player........oh sure, keep doing things the way we have been, that hasn't been working out so well...."

UGH. Record...broken.

RE: Foreign recruits
About as bad as the idiot on Mlive that keeps wanting the hockey team to recruit eastern players as if the geographical region players are being recruited from is the problem to begin with.

You give them ears but they hear not.

We've been through this many, many times. Most of you have never flown overseas so you haven't got a clue what you're talking about. I can buy a round trip ticket to Athens, Greece for $ 500-600.00. About what it costs to fly to Omaha or New York. All you have to do is buy it a few weeks in advance, BFD.

In reality Hawks could scout and recruit players in Europe for not much more than he does in the US, if he was smart about it. Hell, I'd go along with him gratis to act as translator. He just needs to step out of his midwest comfort zone, but he won't. He wants to stay on well-worn turf that he is familiar with and comfortable with, even if it means we get the recruits that 200 other programs have already evaluated-and walked away from.

As I get older I see that an inability to think outside the box is responsible for so many failures in life. People's thinking gets in a rut of comfort and they don't want to do that little bit extra if it means stepping into unfamiliar territory. 99% of all people follow the leader, the other 1% set the trends not follow them.

RE: Foreign recruits
All you have to do is learn to translate Roadhouse into Greek.

Can you say "Europeon Vacation"?

RE: Foreign recruits
Actually..."O Ευρωπαϊκά Διακοπές"

"Οδική-σώμα" is kind of non-sensical, but might be interpreted as "hitchhiker" in some dialects of Greek.

"O Ευρωπαϊκά Διακοπές" is pronounced "O EuropaKA ThiakoPES"

with emphasis on the capital letters.

"Οδική-σώμα" is pronounced "OthiKI SOma"

Can't wait for Alta-Vista translations to come up with a audio translation as well as written! It could be easily done.

RE: Foreign recruits
I realize an overseas plane trip isn't a lot more then some domestic flights, but it's still a ton more then the short drives (with no hotel stay) the staff currently does.
