USC Upstate (Official Game Thread) 01/17/10
Finally got a win the other day, and this would be a great road win to back it up. Upstate is tough at home, and just a tough team in general. They lost to Mercer and ETSU by a combined 4 points, so we have our work cut out. The 7'4" german in the middle is going to be all Ladaris can handle, so it will be interesting to see how we defend them. Gonna need to start running on all cylinders here soon to gain momentum (and a decent record) as we come down the wire.
Go Owls!

Upstate, while lacking overall talent, are scrappy, tenacious, patient, and well-coached. Schneiders played poorly against us, but changes the game even when he's not scoring.

A loss in overtime to the worst team in the conference. Welcome to the basement ladies and gentlemen. 1-6 in conference, last place.

At this point I'm scratching my head wondering if it's even possible to win on the road. I guess Campbell can win on the road but that's about it for this conference. The problem with our team is that we don't have a point guard that can create anything for his teammates. Our only offense is to either shoot 3's or get points in transition. Maybe next year.

Machine,
I think you need to take another look. TODAY Dixon had 8 assists and led the team with 15 points and McConnell shot 50% from the field, so I don't think the point was the problem.
The problem was between Green, Cummings and Woods, they combined to shoot 10 of 40. And if you add Heramb's 2 for 10, that's a total of 12 for 50. So why were they allowed to take so many shots between them?

don't get too stressed out over it. It's the first D1 year ever, I mean what can u expect? Upstate will go through the same transition. KSU in it's 3rd ASUN year would have killed this 3rd year Upstate team (Wooten).

Dixon 15 pts (game high),8asst (game high) 1 t/o 54% from field...Mcconnell 50% from field... Cant blame it on pg today...check the stats.

RE: USC Upstate (Official Game Thread) 01/17/10
just some really brief things i noticed while perusing the box score. we shot 28% from the field today, typical for us. however, there are a couple very troubling stats i'd like to point out. #1 we had 27 more field goal attempts than upstate and they still made more than we did (24-85 for us, 27-58 for them). and #2, overall rebounds were pretty even, but we dominated them on the offensive glass 25-11. if that happen usually means good things for your team, but i guess not when you shoot 28%.
the longer the season goes on, the more frustrated i become. at this point, we don't even deserve to make the conference tournament.

The play by play of the last 6 minutes of regulation in this box score will make you puke even more ...

Sounds like we played well enough to win...but you will never win if you don't make a field goal in the last 6 minutes. Pretty crazy that we were able to get in to overtime without scoring a bucket for that long. Didn't see the game. There are obviously some positives as well from the boxscore, but too tough of a loss to try and force a positive on a game we clearly could have won. This team seems snakebit in the close games this year.

I hope this is a sign of good things to come from our PG's. Maybe this was their breakout game.
