good get. He certainly should add a lot to that staff. Genyk has some excellent experience at NU and EMU.
I just saw a bit in today's newspaper.

I always thought that Genyk was a much better coach than Woodruff & Rasnick. Who knows, maybe even better than English. I was kind of surprised Eastern fired him. I doubt Eastern goes 0-12 with Genyk at the helm in 2009.

I too thought he was an excellent Xs and Os type coach but unforunately only a messiah can save EMU FB.

Jeff had 5 years and there wasn't any improvement. Yes 0-12 is bad but I don't think it would have been any better under Jeff.

Bronco,
Many posters on this board I believe felt that Genyk was a poor recruiter but a better coach. Their knock on him was that he wasn't bringing in Div I level talent as evidenced by the fact that many of his signees had few or no other Div I offers.
I believe the opinion of the majority of this board is that English is a better recruiter than Genyk and will bring the necessary talent for the EMU program to turn around.

Agree, '79.
The only way to recruit well at EMU is to have someone like Ron Cooper who could sell ice to an eskimo or a big, big name coach like Ron English.
Otherwise, with our 20+ year drought in FB success (except a little with Cooper and his recruits) it is tough sliding.
Once English gets to say 5 or 6 wins the program will be okay. BUT that is the hard part getting there.
My only hope is that kids realize that RE and crew are a good staff and that as soon as better talent starts arriving the program will be fine.
It is getting two good recruting classes to get the program built that is really tough.
My hope that Thomas, Moffett, and Axon can provide a real spark on the field next September. They are all potentially very good MAC players and could be the foundation going forward.
They could be the best 3-player class at EMU in a long, long time (I count them as part of the '10 class even though I think only Moffett would need to re-sign again - Thomas is a transfer and I believe Axon is considered a redshirt).
I know NOTHING about how Payne is doing but if he is a good prospect at QB then we could see some nice additions on the field in September.
As Nickle has stated, we will see a team that looks more like a UofM sized team (under Lloyd Carr) then a Genyk sized team.
Size matters to English. A bigger, stronger more physical team.

Might add that rating recruiting classes is both difficult but also not really 100% meaningful.
What EMU releases next month might have little resemblance to the players who PLAY against Army on Labor Day weekend.
The big newcomers could be Thomas, Moffett, Axon, Payne, etc. all of whom are on campus now.
There is a one year lag between these kids enrolling and actually playing a game.
Those who can attend spring practices should be able to check out Thomas, Payne, and Axon. (I don't think Moffett can practice). There should be some clues there if they are big timers (Thomas looked like a big timer last spring I heard).
We can evaluate the '09 class THIS September or October OR NEXT September.
That is why a 0 - 12 record isn't as bad as it seems. A lot of very promising players sat out '09.
