Leach is just a wild card....he could be an AD's worst nightmare or greatest moment. Right now, Leach would NOT go over well with the faculty at any school (although I think that it was really blown out of proportion what happened at TT).

Leach is radio-active right now and it would be a PR nightmare to hire him at this moment. Give him a year for his 'story' (or lack thereof) to cool down and he would be a great hire. Problem is that he's been turned down at places like University of Washington since he's a total free-spirit, loose cannon (and I've heard he likes to hit the bottle a bit...although there's not a whole heckuva lot to do in Lubbock!).

Griffin was the one that put us on probation (2nd string LB) - Kippy led the group and that is why Kippy has never been welcome back - even with the Pro team.

The people who were paying players, including paying Ralph Griffin's mother, were the ones who put us on probation. They did not even cheat well, they quit sending Griffin's mother her money so he spoke out. Griffin was highly recruited SEC type LB - he was 2nd team halfway thru his 1st season.
Kippy Brown was the backup QB - he was not highly recruited out of HS and was not getting paid a penny.

Oh yeah, by all means, don't hire a coach that brings instant PR to your program. A bona fide personality who knows how to build a program!

It doesn't matter what they say about you. The worst that can happen is that no one ever mentions your school.

Good hire, IMO. He's been destined for a SEC job for quite some time. From the Nick Saban coaching tree, excellent recruiter, well-orgranized, great with the public. UT could have done much, much worse.

They will circle the wagons on this hire - they will start saying that this guy is the best up and coming coach,great football mind,etc,etc - they have to. If they don't, that admits that their program is irrelevant and couldn't get anybody with any cache.

I read the article about the hiring, Mike Hamilton said Derek showed him a book on how he does things as a coach and started going into a few details. Mike reminded him they just had 20 minutes....20 minutes??? A number of my interviews over the years have lasted much longer than 20 minutes. Anyway, Dooley appears to be just the opposite of Lane Kiffin. Getting a late start, recruiting will be tough this year and it's a rebuilding year there anyway.
