RE: Construction around UAB campus
I for one love all the construction on campus. It means we are progressing and adding new things which is definitely a plus in my book. More parking, starbucks in the library, newly renovated library with more computers and study areas, on campus softball field, new facilities for baseball, new alumni house, and i believe there will be work soon to renovate a couple floors of Volker Hall.

To update, the new scoreboard/videoboard has gone up at the baseball field. Plus what I assume are the 2 support buildings for the baseball and softball fields are also going up quickly.

Since hoover has mentioned it, is the alumni house finally being built? The corner where the forensic science building used to sit seems like it got cleared a year ago then nothing happened.

You have been gone a long time. That's been gone for 7-8 years.

I started at UAB in the Fall of 2002 when it was already gone.

It must have closed earlier in 2002. I started in the fall of 2000 and ate there a LOT the first couple of years.

Ah, good ole Hideaway. Those chicken fingers were like crack. I wore that place out from the time I got there in '99 until they closed. What a shame. It was nothing but Hideaway, Fat Sams, Al's and New China Town. No wonder I went from 155 to 200 in my 4 years at UAB.

I loved the Hideaway. Midway through class, we would get that break and head up there to get some chicken fingers and a coke. That place was great.

I'm certain that beer was no factor whatsoever in that weight gain. 04-cheers

Wow.....I have been away for too long. During my time there was no parking deck, no rec center and Rast Hall was the newest dorm. To work out or play basket ball you did that at Bell Gym. To play pool or video games you did that at the HUC in the area next to the T.V. Pit.

The Hideaway grilled cheese was always a good mix of cheese and butter-substitute. There was always that one guy who never actually worked, but he'd always be back in their break area watching the tv with rabbit ears... he's the guy you'd go to if they ran out of ketchup or napkins.

Please don't get me started with the Hideaway Cafe. That Chicken finger basket with the buttery toast was to die for. To be honest, I bounced a check or two just to get some of that action.

Can't forget about the hamburger steak plate that would keep the UAB cardiology department in business. That was some good stuff!

ALL non-gated, permit restricted UAB parking lots are open to anyone after 5 and on weekends. Decks included.

I remember what you guys are referring to as the "Hideaway in the Humanities building" as the "3rd floor snack bar in Building 3".

And the grill cheese sandwiches there in 1982 and 1983 were fantastic then too. I wonder if it kept the same ownership all those years, and if so, what happened to that recipe.

THey had about 20 bounced checks taped to the wall... you'd think they'd take a hint... never accept checks from college students.

Go find a Delorian with a flux capacitor, punch in 2000 on the time circuits, get that sucker going 88 down University Blvd, and go get you some chicken finger baskets.
