They're winning, but still aren't pulling in good crowds. Another poster who was there said it looked like 12k actually there. I think the announced crowd was 11k and some change. Yeah, it's a Tuesday night game against the Clippers; and, yeah, if the actual attendance was close to that, it's better than the norm, but still not a good crowd for one of the more exciting teams in the league.
It would only take Om about 5 home games to draw that lol! 04-chairshot

Heisley is licking his chops to be able to get out of the lease.

no he isnt

fo the last time, the penalties he would incur, especially in this economy, in having to pay off the forum, along with some other stuff, if he tried to mov the team, would be brutal.

heisley wants to SELL the team, not move it

Were you the one on the Grizz message boards asking about the lease the other day?

From what I understood the lease is rock solid.

All I can say is that the Grizzlies in Memphis is a good thing. I am really glad I wasn't alive when the ABA folded and Memphis didn't get incorporated in the NBA. I am also glad that I can't really remember Memphis getting punked by NFL expansion in the early 90's, or that I didn't care enough about the Oilers to get mad....because to have gaping wounds due to THOSE instances would be one bitter lifestyle.

Go Grizz.

Rock solid is the term people who refuse to realize reality keep throwing around. Heisley wants to sell the team or move it. Nobody wants to buy it and keep it here. Facts are facts. The organization is losing money and not drawing fans, tv money or enough corporate support to keep it afloat here. Making incredibly stupid roster moves hasn't helped them either.
The lease for many other teams was supposedly "Rock Solid". I wouldn't use that term unless you want to sound naive.

This is what I want:

lease statistics on the Grizzlies compared with other teams that have closed up shop in the past.

statistics on the financial sinkhole that is the Grizzlies compared to other teams in the league. ESPECIALLY: OKC, Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans, Sacramento, New Jersey, and Chicago...just for fun I want to see where Cleveland and Orlando are doing, too.

Of course, none of that matters.

To some, the delusion of the Grizzlies is that they are bloodsucking outsiders who want to do nothing but continue the plight of Memphis. They want to come in and tar and feather Memphis' national image. They imagine Chris Wallace trying to sell of Beale Street, and the organization as something that's sole purpose is to undermine Tiger basketball out of spite and jealousy. They find this grand naivete as a reality, and this new world that they have created is perfect for whenever the Grizz fail, or are the butt of a joke on national television because, "Hey! If the Grizzlies look bad, then Memphis looks bad! Thus I am right! Go me!" and they sink farther and farther into the notion that as long as Memphis looks bad, then all is well with the world.

This backwards thinking...this regressive mindset which has plagued the CITY let alone our athletic department needs to be done away with. I am not in Memphis anymore, but I can tell you that if I was still, I would do nothing but try to enhance my hometown like none other...show the world how great it is, and how great it can be.

The FEF crew installed one of those oblong carnival goals on the Clippers end during the evacuation. The Griz do have a number of positives for the city, but the lease has also hurt the city. It isn't all bad news but it isn't great new either.

When they're winning, people love them.

When they're losing, people hate them.

It is what it is.

What I see is what we all know. That the FedExForum cost(s) a lot of money to build and maintain, and that the Grizzlies cannot charge enough money to be in the plus due to the fact that we have not been good the past 3 seasons. Looking at Atlanta (20), they are operating in an arena that cost $37 million less while charging $20 more for an average ticket. Whereas the FEF cost $250 million with an average ticket price of $25. As of December 9, our team value was 5% more than what it was in the previous transaction process. We are not as big of a sinkhole as some propose, but we ARE hard up for money. Our player expenses are the lightest in the league ($60 millions, $29 million less than the Mavericks, who are in trouble in the next 2-3 years). We are a team that has a young upside, leading to more ticket sales...which is the single biggest problem for us moneywise. If the city could get behind the team (which will come with winning as TigerEye pointed out), the Grizzlies would move forward.

Either way, professional sports have empirically inherited ominous clouds on the horizon.

Someone said they have no corporate support. Incorrect. The corporate support is actually in the top 25% of all league franchises. As for the lease, many cities (including Nashville, who did a report on it a few years back) would love to have our lease. It leaves the Grizzlies responsible for all operating deficits. Remember all those years when the Pyramid management had to go to the County Commission or City Council for money at budget time to cover operational deficits? We haven't had any of that since the Forum was built. How soon we forget.

Seattle's owners paid something like 70 mil to get out of their lease to move to OKC. It can be done, but only by people with deep pockets. I am not a Griz fan, nor am I an NBA fan. From the looks of their season ticket sales, not many others are either. Going from 13k season tickets to 5k in just a few years. The Griz have given away over 4,000 tickets per game each game according to the lawsuit Memphis filled about money owed to Memphis. How can fans that pay good money accept that 4,000 people were given free tickets to the same game. While it is good that the Griz are winning, not even a championship would get me going, but thats my opinion. The Riverkings won a championship last year or the year before, I dont go to their games either.

Was at the forum last night when this happened. The message came up on the jumbo screen and everyone just kind of looked around confused. Never an announcement or anything. People just started getting up. Good news is, when they let us back in we upgraded our own seats to lower level. and we won. So, i was okay with standing outside for 10 minutes.

The city still has to cover the cost of keeping up the Pyramid. It must be kept up for emergency use in case the forum is not usable due to earthquake, fire or flood. The DCC is getting events hand over fist that normally could go to the Pyramid or Coliseum. That is hundreds of thousands of tax dollars that go to Southaven and NOT Memphis. We may have come up OK with the operation cost of the forum but it was more than offset by other losses.

I was also at the game last night and when they let us back in we moved to the first row at half court. It was awesome. Im thinking about pulling the fire alarm every game.

Good for you. Do you go to Redbirds games? Any restaurants? How about plays in the Orpheum? Let me ask you this - and it applies to all the "Grizz haters" - what if Memphis had an NFL team instead of an NBA team. Now of course they would possibly diminish the already small fan base that is Tiger football. But it would put Memphis on the map, much more so than we already are. My guess is that the "Grizz haters" on the board would also be jealous of a local NFL team. Because they're myopic and don't want anything to disrupt their loyal circle of Tiger sports. JMO.

Yes jerkbait, I go to many Redbirds games, take my family out to eat twice a week and go to the Orpheum movie series pretty often. I just dont do NBA games. Had season tickets when the Oilers were here, so your idiotic logic doesnt work. I have no idea what myopic means, but I know a dip sh$t when I see his post, see yours for example. Because I dont like NBA ball, I am a HATER? I dont like hockey, am I a hater? Dont like science fiction, am I a hater? I am lucky to have enough disposable income to do what I want and I choose to NOT spend it on the Grizz. But I spend it on plenty of other activities. You stay in your tiny little world and keep thinking you know everything, I will travel the world and learn all I can.

Most Grizz haters take their anger for getting punked by the NFL several times on the NBA franchise with "Memphis" across the jersey. It's a vicarious sort of hate the Grizzlies get.

Do you do anything that defines you as anything but a Tiger fan? How many other activities do you attend? Not counting the childrens museum.

I am not a hater of anything. Except idiots and morons.
