@ KSU (W 63-53)
Quote:KENNESAW, GA. - Jonathan Rodriguez scored 25 points to lead Campbell to a 63-53 Atlantic Sun Conference men's basketball win Saturday night at Kennesaw State.

Lorne Merthie added 13 points. Rodriguez made 10-of-14 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds, while Junard Hartley dealt nine assists with only two turnovers for the Camels (9-5, 4-1), who moved into a tie for the A-Sun lead. Miles Taylor added eight points on 4-of-4 shooting.

Campbell led 29-21 at halftime and 33-21 with 18:16 to go, but the Owls responded with a 14-4 burst to trim the lead to a pair.

Kurtis Woods hit three triples to bring KSU within 37-32 with 14:57 to play, and the Camels followed with a shot clock violation. Spencer Dixon's trey at the key cut the gap to 37-35 with 12:29 to go, but Kyle Vejraska converted a 3-point play on the following possession to start an 8-0 run. The Owls never cut the gap closer than eight the rest of the way.

Woods led Kennesaw State (5-11, 1-5) with 24 points, including 4-of-11 threes. Markeith Cummings added 10 points and six rebounds.

Campbell shot 50 percent from the floor (23-46) and hit 5-of-16 from long range, while converting 19 Kennesaw turnovers into 22 points. Kennesaw shot just 36 percent from the field and made only 6-of-26 from long range (.231). The Camels finished with a 30-26 edge on the glass.

"Early in the game, our defensive pressure in the full court enabled us to get off to a great start," said Camel head coach Robbie Laing. "We dropped off toward the end of the half, but came out and played really well in the second. Rodriguez was special tonight, and Merthie and Hartley really played well in the second half."

The Camels jumped to a 23-9 lead when Rodriguez hit a three from the left wing with 6:50 to play in the first half. Kennesaw missed 10 of its first 12 shots and committed eight turnovers in the span. CU led 29-15 after Merthie made a triple from the right corner, but Kennesaw closed within 29-21 at the break on Jon-Michael Nickerson's tip-in at the buzzer.

Kennesaw shot just 32 percent from the field in the opening half and committed 12 turnovers. Kurtis Woods topped the Owls with eight points before intermission.

Campbell improved to 8-1 this year when holding foes to less than 70 points in a game. Kennesaw has scored at least 70 only once in its last eight outings and dropped its fourth-straight contest. Campbell has won six of the last seven games in the series vs. KSU, including four-straight.

The Camels return home Thursday for an 8:00 p.m. match-up against Florida Gulf Coast.

Glad we came back from our first conference lost.
