odd as a cod... I wish Butch Jones the worst... after I heard he was looking at Marshall I knew he was looking for any payday he could get.

Can't hardly blame him for walking into a situation where a win over Florida puts him on a national stage. Still though he should coach CMU in the bowl game if the AD wants him to.

Why? College football is a business. Have you ever been promoted in your job and gotten more money, or looked for an open position that offered more money than your current job?

You perform well, you have the right to look for more money and accept positions that give that money out no matter what school.
Would you not accept a position that would better your family and offer more money?

Lefevoure is graduating, so Jones had to jump when the opportunity was hot. Brian Kelly didn't have a winning season the first two years at CMU, but then comes LeFevoure and his last year at CMU was a good one. Then comes Butch Jones and a couple more years of Lefevoure. Lefevoure is gone and so is Jones. Another top assistant just left for Florida last week. CMU was not a good team for a long time until these two coaches and Lefevoure came on scene. And I bet that Jones brings some recruits with him and loses others due to uncertainty. It is going to be a tough vacuum to fill in my opinion.

Agreed. We beat CMU like 9 or 10 times in a row until the last couple of years.

Jones lived on Lavefour for 3 yrs, and has not shown he can coach without him. Just like Turner Gill, one good season at Buff.

I am getting deja vu

Lefevoure = Nate Davis
Butch Jones = Brady Hoke

I just hope the Huskies don't get the impression that they will be the next West champ by default. Competition will still be tough.

RE: Butch Jones Hired at Cincy
There are few first season wonders in college coaching.

In a world driven and expecting INSTANT gratification, some things simply take longer than others.

It highly depends upon what new coach is walking into.

Take Novak, Turner Gill or NU's Gary Barnett for starters.

Cincy today is not the Cincy of 1990's. How much does Cincy lose from roster this season?

San Diego State has had its ups and downs like Fresno.

It's a case by case situation. Replacing one successful coach with another is not easily guaranteed.

Consider what followed recent changes at Kansas State, ND and Marshall, three programs now on
the downslope.

How long are you willing to give Jones, Hoke and DanL before declaring them busts?

I would not be suprised to see Antonio Brown declare for the NFL soon at all. He has the talent to be a good draft choice and with the talent around him gone there is no reason for him to stick around. Still waiting for defections from the recruits, Kevin Henry being at the top of the list.

Former Huskie assisstant coach Steve Stripling is interim coach. A really good guy. I hope if he wants to be a head coach he gets this job

This clearly does caste NIU as the favorite in the MAC west.
As you have learnt Toledo, Western Michigan and Central Michigan will have us in their targets looking to pull off an upset.

Injuries may change the dynamic dramatically, so who knows?
Why next year is looking very promising, it is far from a lock.
Every win will have to be earned the hard way.

I am looking forward to next years team though.

RE: Butch Jones Hired at Cincy
Let me start by saying that yes, NIU will be most people's favorite in the West next season, and for good cause. Toledo will also have a say, if they can shore up that swiss-cheese defense a bit.

As for CMU/BSU comparisons...Ball State didn't just lose Davis, but also three of his best targets and 4/5 of the OL that protected he and Miquale Lewis so well. CMU will return at least three of its top five receivers (hopefully four), every RB that has carried the ball this season, and 4/5 of the OL. Whomever LeFevour's replacement is will have plenty of help.

I'm more concerned about our defense, myself, where we lose both starting corners and both starting DEs. We appear to have good depth at those positions, but you never know.

And yes, the next coach will be of prime importance. Fortunately, our AD has yet to pick a bad egg, so I think we'll be OK. At least 100 individuals have already expressed interest in the job. So, I think we'll do a tad better than Ball State did in hiring...

CMU might have a hiccup next year during the transition, but they won't fall off the face of the earth like Ball State did.
