O/T ND's new coach
Not completely off topic w/ the rumors abounding of ND joining the MAC.

Anyway, what do folks think of ND replacing Weis. I read Dan Wetzl pushing for Cincy's Brian Kelly. (MAC tie in).

But, I'd argue that the best choice would be...
Gary Patterson of TCU.

I haven't heard any rumors of Notre Dame to the MAC outside of this board. Has anyone else?

As for Weis, yeah, I think he's already got one butt cheek out the door (takes a while to push him, ya know). I could see either Patterson or Kelly, but I think Kelly is most likely.

Who in the world is speculating on ND joining the MAC? They would be relinquishing their BCS tie-in. That is just crazy talk.

Of course, absolutley, ND to the MAC. I've been hearing it to. Are Torch & I the only 2 people that have been hearing the rumors?

Kelly or Harbaugh would be my top choices. If I was hiring, I would be looking for a coach not a "name' or a "splash". Both coaches have terrific pedigrees and are KNOWN winners. Not sold on names like Gruden, Shanahan for a college job. Tony Dungy... if he has an interest, yes.

Kelly and Harbaugh are certainly "sexy" right now. And probably not bad choices. But, take a look at Patterson's record at TCU...it's pretty impressive.

And believe me, I'm no TCU fan.

Beano Cook had said in a S FL radio interview about 2 weeks ago he was hearing from ND insiders that Kelly is the guy.

Beano Cook said Ron Powlus would win 2 Heismans.

So Kelly signs an extension through 2013 and just leaves?

Beano Cook predicts Notre Dame will win the National Championship. It's an annual tradition.

If there's a school that can afford the buyout, it's Notre Dame.

RE: O/T ND's new coach
Interesting thread.
Doubt it's Fitzgerald; he actually seems to be loyal to his alma mater at NU and just got a big extention. Still, not the number ND could throw at him, but I'd be surprised.

Kelly is an interesting choice. Very interesting.

Nu's coach won't be going anywhere. He was a star player for the Wildcats. He'll retire there, if given the opportunity.

I can see Kelly going if Cinci goes undefeated but is shut out of the BCS championship game. At ND, he wouldn't have that problem.

I understand that, but that would be the dick move of all dick moves on his part.

Kelly to ND if UC gets held out of the BCS title game.

Harbaugh to Michigan if the new AD doesn't see any progress in Rich Rod's team. Especially next year if U of M struggles again.

Have you been paying any attention to college football? This happens all the time. That is what buyout clauses are for.
