I think you're probably right actually. I don't see Iowa or Penn State getting a BCS bid, though its obviously not impossible. It looks right now like it will be:

SEC CG loser
TCU
Boise State
Oklahoma State

If Pittsburgh beats Cincinnati, a 1 loss Cinci team might get that last bid. And obviously if Texas somehow loses the Big 12 CG, it would definitely get in.

Normally, the BCS bowls would only take TCU OR Boise State. Contractually, that's all they have to do (other than non-AQ schools guaranteed one spot if in top 7(?), teams in the top 4 are automatically guaranteed a spot). But this year there's going to be a lot of pressure to take both. If Nevada somehow beats Boise, obviously all bets are off.

It would take an upset or two for the Big Ten NOT to get a 2nd team in the BCS right now. They won't fill the Pizza Bowl unless Michigan wins today or said upset(s) happen.

7 spots are filled (6 BCS champions and TCU/Boise State). The other 3 will be the Alabama/Florida loser, TCU/Boise State and ????. Who will fill ????. Probably Iowa or Penn State. It's hard to believe Oklahoma St. would get the bid before either of those two, they travel much better.

If Pitt beats Cincinnati, then both of those schools could be in the BCS and knock the Big Ten #2 out. The only other real option is for the Big 12 North winner to upset Texas in the Big 12 Championship game. I don't see that happening.

Over the past several years Boise has played their way into what could be considered national power status. They are not looked at by the TV people as a non BCS school because they are as big a TV draw as the others. Even though Boise will be an at large team they will get a bid along with TCU. they may even play each other at the Fiesta bowl if texas plays for the so called national title.

There's a lot of talk about Oklahoma State getting an at-large BCS spot if they beat Oklahoma.

Boise is a TV draw? True, Boise's game with Oklahoma earned the highest ratings for a non-BCS team in a BCS game, but it still easily is beaten by most games involving say a Big Ten team. Even though it was on a different network, the Boise-Oklahoma game likely was helped by being the night of the USC-Michigan game that was a ratings bonanza.

Don't know about the Army/CUSA side of the Eagle Bank bowl, but the ACC will not be filling its slot in this game, and its backup is an at-large team from the MAC. Since there is an eligible at large team from the MAC with 7 wins (NIU, and possibly BG if they defeat UT), the slot opposite Army/CUSA officially belongs to the MAC.

That is in very poor taste.

Marshall has 6 wins already and with UTEP ahead has a an excellent shot at obtaining its 7th.

One thing this year is there aren't a lot of bowl openings out there. A non-BCS school is pretty much going to need 7 wins as I'll explain in another post.

cusa should have six seven win teams. Houston and SMU in the west. ECU, USM, UCF and Marshall in the east.

What happens with Army now. They would qualify with a bowl if they beat Navy on DEC 12TH. What team is going to wait that long to see if they can sell bowl tickets.

As best we can tell the Eaglebank will pick its cusa team on Nov 29th. Say they pick Marshall, which is likely. They will then pick a MAC team and announce the game as

Marshall vs Army or Ohio, or
Marshall vs Army or Temple
depending on who they pick.
Then on Dec 12th everyone will know depending on the outcome of the Army- Navy game.
