I had to laugh at something a friend of mine
said. He was talking about some coach whose team had just lost a game, and the coach said that his team had tried really hard. My friend said a mule running in the Kentucky Derby would probably be trying hard, but he ain't gonna win. Translation. Talent wins horse races, football games, basketball game, etc. You can have the greatest coaching in the world, but if you don't have the talent, you're not going to win. If and when our talent level is better than Westerns or USA or others, we'll be the ones going to the NCAA tournament. Solution is very simple. Recruit players better than the other teams in your league. Obviously easier said than done.

if you don't have the talent, you're not going to win.
Then, unless Harding has mid-major DI talent, we don't need to even play today. Just chalk it up as a win. Let's also mark down Memphis as a loss and go on.

I'll mark down Harding as a win. Not ready to mark down Memphis as a loss, however. Over the years, we have beat numerous teams with more "talent". Talent may be "the" most important factor but coaching, motivation, effort, and execution play major roles as well. Otherwise, like you suggested- why play the games?
