RE: BB: Practice starts today!
I'll bite and throw Brandon Hazzard's name into the hat for POY. Don't know if he has a shot at it, but he is our best player. He was named College BBall's 16th best shooter by FoxSports.com.

I saw that USA Today predicted us to finish 2nd in the East, behind WKU. They also had Hazzard and Richard Delk on the 1st team SBC as well.

RE: BB: Practice starts today!
What we need this year is everyone to step up and win some of the OOC games they are not suppose to. That is how you build reputation and pump up the Sagarin and RPI numbers. I know we lost of couple of stinkers last year (Murray St & Evansville) but a win over Louisville and the NCAA win help redeem those two clunkers. I have not studied everyone's schedule yet but I am sure everyone has a chance to beat a BCS league team or at least be competitive. 04-rock

I love OMV as much as any and more than some, but let's be honest. He won POY because he was the top scorer on the regular season champ. For that reason, I would have to think that the early favorites would have to be Slaughter, Tramiel, and Hazzard. If WKU, UNT or Troy wins the regular season thier guy will win POY. Probably. Unless maybe one guy really goes nuts on numbers and stands out.

RE: BB: Practice starts today!
this could be fun.....there were some guys on the jags jungle board that had broken down every stat imaginable between c-lee (pbuh), bennett and mccaleb their last year.

they came to the conclusion that it was a TRAVESTY that bennett lost. where's he playin' now??? lol....i know that doesn't really mean squat to who had the best year but all 3 guys numbers were so close it was unreal and that year our guy took it by the slightest of margins.

i did award bennett with the 'forest whitaker' lookalike award. i had forgot hazzard's name.....he is a straight up balla. we couldn't hold him at all.

i agree that omv wouldn't have come close to winning it that year but he shined at a good time.

Not taking anything away from Slaughter, but Eric Tramiel might have something to say about that. 05-stirthepot

I predict this will be the best Red Wolves basketball team ever. :)
And I'd like to throw Martavious Adams into the SBC newcomer of the year ring.

Quote:I don't think anyone thought it was a TRAVESTY, but the point was that Lee was getting the press and Bennett, in many areas, was equal or surpassing him. Considering the fact the under Lee's watch the Hilltoppers couldn't handle the Jaguars, most of us thought he deserved the award. You are right, of course, that pro potential shouldn't figure in to this conversation, but actually Bennett is doing quite well. He turned an offer from the Hawks last year to come to their preseason camp after impressing in their summer league in order to sign a guaranteed deal with a team in Poland. He had a great year with them, is now $500,000 richer and in line for bigger paydays down the road. He may end up in the NBA eventually or he may be one of those guys who earns a nice living overseas for a number of years. This can't compare with what Lee has experienced in the pros, but certainly nothing to indicate that Bennett was anything but a SBC POY caliber player.
And, yes, that had to be the strongest three-man race for that award in l
eague history.
