One good thing that could come of it is that the MLB doesnt like pinning divisional foes for the division series if the wildcard is from the same division but im not for certain on that. I would much rather play colorado or los angeles
I totally agree with you, homefry on that point. The Saint Louis Cardinals only bad matchup so far is the Philadephia Phillies that I have seen so far in the National League. Even with the Cards losing twelve to six last night after being up six to zero in the game, which I cannot believe. I guess baseball is much more of an offensive game than thirty years ago. Even with the less home runs hit because of the performance enchancing drugs era, the pitchers are not any better.

So does anyone think that Cardinals starting pitcher Chris Carpenter can win the National League Cy Young without winning twenty games in a season? I know Adam Wainright has a chance to win the Cy Young as well, but it would be great for him to get a twenty win season in my opinion.

I watched Baseball Tonight between half innings when Wainwright came out of the game & they were already calling him a 20 game winner. It justs shows you how quickly things can change. They seemed to think Wainwright will win the Cy Young & I agree.I think Carpenter would've won 22 or 23 if he hadn't gotten hurt.No 20 game winners in MLB this year. The last time that happened was 2006.Omen?

I wish it was that easy, but one has nothing to do with the other. Otherwise, I would be trying to get World Series Tickets for the Saint Louis Cardinals in St. Louis.

Im a huge Cardinal fan and truly hope Wainright gets the Cy Young in the NL but it will be a true shame if Zack Greinke does not get it in the AL. He was 16-8 for one of the worst teams in baseball with a 2.16 ERA.

I agree with you totally on that fact homefry, but I know CC Sabithia will win the American League Cy Young because his team was in contention, and the Kansas City Royals were not. It is as simple as that, unfortunately. The Cy Young has become voted as the best pitcher on the best team who will compete for the playoffs or are actually in the playoffs, and that will not change.

According to ESPN last night, the NLDS will be as follows:

STL vs LAD
COL vs PHI

This might be the greatest baseball news ive got all season.

The Saint Louis Cardinals have the talent to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Divisional Series, but their pitching and defense is so much more important in the playoffs, along with timely hitting. Go Cards!

Great news indeed. The Cardinals are 5-2 against the Dodgers this year (2-1 road and 3-1 home). Compare that to 1-4 vs. the Phillies and 1-6 against the Rockies.

Im going to discount the Rockies record because we played them recently in a 4 game series when we were resting players due to already clinching a playoff spot. I would like a shot at the Rockies especially watching Holliday hit at Coors field again.

Agreed, and the Rockies were still fighting for a playoff spot. But, I do like this matchup better for the NLDS to hopefully build up some steam.

Another good thing about playing the Dodgers is that their stadium in Chavez Ravine is a pitchers park by far. The Cards are one of the few teams in the majors that still "manufacture runs" and are not solely a power hitting team. Philly and Denver are obviously hitters parks and will indeed favor the Rockies and Phills.

Iagree with you regarding the Saint Louis Cardinals offense. The Cardinals pitching staff is not good enough to win all those game one to nothing in October, I think that is too much to ask for all the pitchers.

St.Louis will not get past Philadelphia. Other than Brad Lidge, the Phils pitching staff from 1-5 is more solid than the Cards. Wainwright and Carpenter are better as a 1-2, but top to bottom I'd take the Phils. The Phils lineup with Rollins and Victorino at the top setting it up for Howard and Utley is just as formidable as the Cards. The Phillies 7th place hitter Werth has like 27 homers.

Colorado and the Dodgers will be easy outs. Neither has quality starters or relievers.

The AL Playoffs will be better to watch I think. As long as St.Louis or Philadelphia don't win the World Series I'll be happy.
The Saint Louis Cardinals are a bad matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies if they both reach the National League Championship Series. Watching the regular season series, I just hope the Phillies lose in the first round of the playoffs, but their are no guarantees the Cards get past the Los Angeles Dodgers, but I like the Redbirds chances. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim versus the Boston Red Sox will be a good matchup in the American League Divisional Series as well.
