All in the 4th QTR, Indiana leading at #23 Michigan 26-21, USF leading at #18 Florida State 14-7, Southern Miss and #20 Kansas tied at 28 at Kansas, Georgia Tech is destroying #22 North Carolina 24-7.

Why would those scores matter?

Ummm, because one of them is a Big East team, and if those scores hold up we could have 2 more Big East teams ranked (Pitt and USF) thus helping UC? It also shows that UC is doing well on a day where there could be a number of upsets. That's why those scores matter.

Exactly. Also, it's insane to ask why a game with a undefeated Big East team beating a ranked team on the road is important. I mean, why WOULDN'T a game with South Florida beating #18 Florida State on the road be important? It could mean a Top 10 Bearcats team going on the road and playing a ranked Big East squad. Maybe TWO ranked Big East squads (Pitt should crack the rankings with a win). And if all of those ranked teams lose then it makes it easier for the Big East to get multiple Top 25 teams in, meaning more national pub for UC and conference. I'd love to have a Top 10 Bearcats team sitting on top of a conference with multiple Top 25 programs.

That was a huge defensive play at the end....but wow. They are a really, really good team. We were quite fortunate to win this game.

Thoughts...

1. Fresno is good team...but don't do the little things to win.
2. Coach really screwed up on that 4th and whatever...instead of taking fg they throw a pick and UC converts to TD......
3. Wondering if press clippings have gone to our heads a little......but hey, we won so I'll take it.
4. We were missing two starters on defense...that didn't help.
5. We have up 300 yards rushing......HORRID.

The great teams need survival games like this once or twice. We know what we need to get to work on without the penalty of losing.

I'll take it.

RE: Game thread...
i'm not going to indict the defense just yet. The 4th game in a new system, missing 2 starters, against a very good FSU team. A run oriented team that looked like they were running two TEs a lot. One of the TDs looked like a blown coverage that is, hopefully, correctible. Aaron Webster makes big plays and blown plays in equal parts. That worries me significantly. Barnett looked decent in coverage and was a step away from making a pick 6 but had to settle for a pass defensed.

i think this is a unit that will get better. Plus, if the Offense is good enough to put up big digits quick, it'll give the D the opportunity to play even faster.

So far, Ole Miss (#4) has lost and either VA Tech or MIA, Fl will drop. i can't wait for all the other results to get in and see where the Bearcats end up in the polls.

Great win for the Bearcats.

An especially great win for South Fla on the road...against a #18 team that simply put the wood to #7 BYU. I didn't think they had any chance at all.

Looking like another huge weekend for the Big East. No one will be questioning our BCS credentials the rest of the season. If ever again. And some of the rankings (ie Sagarin) may actually start putting the BE at the top.

A Top 10 ranking against a ranked S Fla without Grothe as our next conference game. Couldn't be better then that.

My voice is completely shot today. I'm still trying to figure out how we won that game when our defense was on the field the entire time. BK was working some strange voodoo yesterday.

RE: Game thread...
It WAS a great win against a strong road team. Hats off! Hopefully the Cats won't hand the Mounties our asses at nippert in November. They're looking GREAT. I'm hopin' that big donor comes through soon for the facilities AND to keep Kelly. This conference needs this strength and his coaching. Welcome to the spotlight, Cats!
