What happens if the unthinkable were to happen and we were to make it to the Championship Game and maybe even win it

Lets say the practice fields do not get funded and will not be built by Sept 2010. What will Coach Kelly say then. Say he decides to leave UC for another school whatever it may be. He will at that point have no choice but to say its for more money, he cant say that he wants to be with a school that has a chance to compete for national title because he just played for or maybe won one. I guess he could say tradition and fanbase and attendance and those things. If he says we dont have as good of a chance going forward all he will be saying is the players he recruited dont have as much potential than the players that Dantonio recruited that got us to the Orange Bowl and for the most part the NC game if we get there. And I know we are getting into a gray area here but how can he even say that the facilities are holding him back from winning, clearly they are not...now are they in the long run, maybe but I think would put some big doubt out there.

1) If we go to the national championship game, the facilities will be built with gold plated yardage markers and grand statues of Coach Kelly eating fruit from goddesses. If we don't go to the national championship game, they're still going to get built. Moot point.

2) Do we really need another thread hashing out what's going to happen with Coach Kelly and the facilities?

lazyeyep22;

Without a doubt we need more of them. I was about to start one here and two others, one over at BCN and one over at Yappi. And to be completely frank, Gary Bearcat’s post is WAY MORE REASONABLE than the crap I was going to write. I mean, it’s not like the national sports punditry is talking about it every time Coach BK and his merry band of Bearcats notch another “W” right?

I ask you, lazyeyep22, if not us than who?

The point is, if we can go to the NC without them once, whats to say it cant be done again

Nothing but when we have them, it will make it easier to go again sooner.

Ummmm! Fruit from a Goddess.

Isn't that one of those beers Beck sells and Lush drinks by the case? The one with just a hint of the fish?

Way better than the garbage you get from those shaved ice stands all around town that never seem to have any customers.

BK will probably leave regardless of what happens with an NC or BCS bowl game. I think that going to a place that has the facilities that UC will soon have, that has a stadium that fills 100,000 no problem and makes recruiting easier, that has higher recruiting budgets for Football and will pay more money is why he will leave. Not b/c big things cannot be done at UC, we know they can and so does BK.

I did not think BK quite had the credentials on the big stage to leave yet but after what could come from this season this staff will be a damn hot commodity.

I see what you're saying BCat but I think the greatest incentive for
BK to stay irregardless of "if the bubble gets fixed/ attendance" etc. etc.

If the stars all align perfectly and this team finishes the regular
season undefeated and "just three or four teams" end up losing......
it is going to be "extremely" hard for the Cats to not be playing for
The National Championship.

If Coach Kelly were too get to that game, no matter who would win,
if he were too up and leave - - that would show no matter what he
says, that it was just about the money. Follow me? Right before I
hit the post reply button I saw what was extremely close to what I
just said.

Like what has been said before by others, just enjoy it, everything
will be OK. The way I look at it is worse case scenario (which isn't bad IMO)....is that Coach Coombs either now or in a year or two can take
over this program and keep the wheels rolling. I have the utmost
faith in Kerry and him learning under the helm of Coach Kelly. I just
cannot ever seeing this football program ever taking another step backward and that is what we as fans are basically concerned about,
IMO, it ain't gonna happen.

Gregg, although I question Coombs ability to take over immediately, I agree that UC football has too much forward momentum to take a step back. MT hired BK, he can hire another great coach if need be.

My concern wouldn't be BK leaving in itself. It would be the failure of coming up with practice facilities resulting in his angrily leaving town in a lateral move (Illinois and the like).

You guys are right. You are getting me very pumped up as I get ready to leave for Clifton in a minute.

The facilities will come soon. UC should never take a step back now. It will be hard b/c with they way they are being built now it is a strong foundatiomn for the future and for competing in the Big East.

Yeah, I know what you're saying on both ends. Hopefully Kerry taking
over won't even have to be discussed, I definitely don't think it happens
in the next couple of years, that bridge will be crossed when it has to.

As for BK leaving angrily.....yeah, lets just hope it doesn't come to
that. I can't really see that going down but after everything that has
happened to this university athletic wise in the last number of years,
I can say nothing would surprise me.
