Many of our fans think we should automatically beat any SunBelt team and quite a few C-USA teams... just because. I guess the whole "we are Memphis" is their chant.
And while I do think that if games were played on paper, we should never be close to ole miss... for the life of me, I have never understood why we are so much better than some of the teams our fans think we should be. And this has nothing to do with Coach West or how good or bad our teams have been in the last couple of years.
I feel that University of Memphis Football Team should be at least competitive with the Ole Miss each year. That is my expectation regarding that game. I guess the feeling that you are outnumbered in your own city and stadium is one reason for this kind of attitude versus the Rebels, in my humble opinion.
Where do you get we are outnumbered in our city and stadium by Mississippi? You must be believing some of the stuff Lapides spews sometimes.

More evidence that any football thread on this board WILL have attacks on West.
Sometimes I think this fan base DESERVES the football program it has.
Judging from the financial support in my lifetime, I would say that would be very true, lol. Take away FEDEX and we are back to the "glory days" of being one of the five worst programs in America.

I have a gig Saturday night in Oxford for some snot-nosed brats and they will now be far more drunk than normal, lol. I love Ole Miss kids...the guys get drunk and puke all over their chino's and "distressed" jeans while the women get mad at their dates, get drunk, and show their boobs with the price tags still on them, lol. God, I swear I love my job, lol.

RE: Wow!
I would not bet against Bama until the conference championship game. No one is going to run on them, few will pass on them, and if you can't score points, you lose...which is what the $EC will do against them.

What exactly does Hotty Toddy mean? I had some fairweather Ole Miss fan try to explain it to me a few years back, but I lost interest about 3 words into the explanation.
There was a group of Confederate soldiers during the Civil War that would yell the "Hotty Toddy" chant while running into battle. Not exactly sure what a "hotty toddy" is, but that's where it came from.
Its an alcoholic beverage.
I've never heard of a hot toddy referred to as a hotty toddy.

Ok, so Hotty Toddy is a brand of rum and brandy mix. Is it supposed to be used in a hot toddy? Surely, not exclusively so because it says you can serve it hot or cold. I'm glad there wasn't much hotty toddying going on tonight. They needed to be taken down a peg or two.

You need someone to watch your guitar case so no snot-nosed brat steals it while you play and the women get mad at their dates, get drunk, and show hteir boobs with the price tags still on them? I would love that job.

I saw a SC team who had a great 1st half gameplan, but only won because Ole Miss sucked it up on offense in the second half. SC played such a conservative offense that they were lucky they won. Ole Miss's offense absolutely blew and they still almost won the game. I saw a great SC pass defense and a great OM defensive line, and great right side offensive run blocking. Otherwise, I saw a bunch of suck, but I will never understand any of our fans crowing like a bunch of cocks. Put it together and you know what you get.
I live in SC and follow the GameCocks. Its amazing for a state of 2mm people they put nearly 85K in for every home game. Defense is good but offense needs some work but part of that last night was due to a good Ole Miss defense. Even with the Ole Miss D being good the cocks have to step it up but Garcia is showing signs of maturing as a QB.

I'm happy today, for no specific reason
I know that watching the Webs choke on national TV has something to do with it. I really shouldn't care, but for some reason it gives me a bit of pleasure when the runts take it on the chin....even moreso when they are thinking that they are special.
Come to think of it, I guess that happens a lot. The runts talk about how good they are, then fizzle. Regardless of the reason, I enjoyed it. I bleed Tiger blue, and I guess that by itself is enough to dispise the runts, and make me smile this morning.
The Rebs haven't won their conference, much less a national championship in 46 years. I guess this will be 47

Kind of like most Tiger fans are toward Middle Tennessee and Arkansas State? (or any other Sunbelt team for that matter) (Heck, toward most C-USA programs too)
Do you realize you're trying to defend Tommy West by running down our program?
No, I don't realize that at all because it is simply not the case. My post had absolutely nothing to do with Tommy West or our program. If you look closely, well heck you don't really have to look that closely, you won't see his name or our program mentioned.
That would be a good argument if we didn't take into account your previous postings on the board. I think you've established that you think Memphis is equivalent to SunBelt teams in terms of facilities, or support, or results we should expect against them or something of the like, and are using this to defend Tommy West by saying "It's no surprise we lose to them, they're our equal." I think your reference to other Memphis fans is a jab at people who have the audacity to think Memphis should beat a sunbelt team >50% of the time.
And I think Memphis is better than SunBelt teams, no doubt. I feel sorry for you if your opinion of our program places us on the same level as Arkansas State, Troy, and North Texas
"your opinion of our program places us on the same level as Arkansas State, Troy, and North Texas"
"I think you've established that you think Memphis is equivalent to SunBelt teams in terms of facilities, or support"
Apparently you need to leave the thinking to others. There is no doubt that Ark St, MTSU, and other Sunbelt teams have some newer and better things than we do, such as a weightroom or practice fields. People have posted pictures of them and linked to the schools' sites where they brag about them. Taken in total, things might balance out between us and any of them, but just because we play in a 62,000+ seat stadium and draw more fans because we've had more students through the door over the years doesn't mean We and they recruit pretty much the same crop except we can get a little higher rated guys a lot of the time because of our basketball name recognition, having been D-1 for so much longer than them, and our C-USA brethren are better known names nationally.
I don't even have to reply. This says it all. You look at bigger city, more name recognition, better conference, more money, and see an equivalent team.
