Since I'm not a hog fan there is most likely a lot I don't know about this young man's football saga. Based on observations it seems to me to be somewhat unfortunate. Nothing unusual about leaving the first school and transferring but taking on the challenge at USC is what I never understood. USC is a short drop down from the NFL. Now, it seems he will have virtually no chance of playing time at USC. Wouldn't he have been better off transferring to a small program where he could have been a starter 3 years? But like I said there is probably a lot that I don't know.

RE: Mustain
I saw today he has a shot at becomming the starting punter. I hope he makes it. Wouldn't that be something if he became an NFL punter. Now that would be quite a story!

I never understood why he didn't transfer to a program like Tulsa, where he likely could have been a star on a team that likes to pass. Not sure why he didn't transfer to UCA this year. I guess he thought he might get a shot out there when Sanchez left. I guess he could still go to UCA, if he wants to get on the field as a quarterback. Doesn't appear to be a priority for him at this point.

I was told awhile back that he had a very wealthy girlfriend, and he had no intention of leaving USC. And remember. Matt Cassell never played at USC because he was behind Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart during his college days, and he's now the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and started for the Patriots last year when Brady was hurt.
Mustain is a talented kid, and he'll get a shot in the pros whether or not he plays at USC.04-cheers

Maybe AFL2...maybe as a punter. NFL quarterback? I don't think so.

I didn't say he'd make it. I said he'd get a chance. I don't think his quarterback days are over. He could have been a star at a lot of high D1 schools. And should have been at Arkansas if he hadn't been caught up in the Houston Nutt fiasco. But only time will tell. Wouldn't it be a great movie if he went on and had great success as a pro. Probably not likely, but certainly possible. Being a high school national player of the year put him on the scouts radar initially, and there will be some pro team who will take a chance on him when he finishes school. Assuming he wants to even play pro ball.04-cheers

I was told that they have a beach home at, I believe, Malibu. Now that's assuming he still has the same girlfriend that he had last year.
And that the story is true. It was related to me last year by someone at the newspaper, who has a lot of inside information about the Mustain situation.01-lauramac2

A rich girlfriend, a beach front home in Malibu, and who knows? Maybe a career in show business. It's all beginning to come together and make perfect sense. Shame on us for questioning the young man's judgment.

Mommy? Now that's another factor in the mix. If Mommy is calling the shots, transferring down to a lower classication would be beneath him and not something to even consider. Better to ride the bench at USC than to be the key player at a lower division school. I was watching last night when USC punted 1 time. The announcer never identified the punter.
