Swagger's Slate
Note: * denotes wins, but doesn't beat spread

While my picks, particularly against the spread, were ugly in Week 1, they still weren't as ugly as the Virginia offense was against William & Mary. My only egregious error was thinking FSU would house Miami. This just in: Miami's QB is for real. Let's regroup in Week 2.

CURRENT RECORD: Overall 15-6 || ATS 5-8

===== WEEK TWO

Thursday:
Clemson (+5) at Georgia Tech
Clemson has a new QB, who still hasn't cut his teeth on a big time defense. Will Kyle Parker have what it takes to pick apart a very good GT secondary when Tech inevitably starts loading the box to stop CJ Spiller and help out its new and untested defensive line? Will the Clemson defense be able to turn around from their 1 LB 6 DB scheme to stop Middle Tennessee's spread in just 4 days to stopping the triple option? Don't bet on it.
Pick: Georgia Tech

Saturday:
North Carolina (-5) at UCONN
How is this spread only 5? Give alot of credit to Randy Edsall for fielding Big East contending teams with (should you believe the recruiting 'experts') very little in the cubbard. But UNC is superior in every aspect of the game, and unlike last season when UNC housed then #24 UCONN 38-12, UNC is completely healthy this go around.
Pick: UNC ... by a bunch.

Stanford (+2.5) at Wake Forest
A battle between two very good and very under appreciated head coaches. What's the difference between Stanford and Baylor? Stanford is better.
Pick: Stanford

Duke (+2) at Army
At least Richmond is the defending FCS champions. But the Duke offense was surprisingly anemic for a highly veteran QB in his second year under Cutcliffe. That being said, I suspect Duke to redeem itself in this week's UPSET SPECIAL!
Pick: Dookers

Marshall (+20) at Virginia Tech
Marshall struggled mightily to beat their FCS opponent last week. But the Virginia Tech offense struggled to do ANYTHING. I'll take the Hokies to beat the spread, simply because Marshall's defense was swiss cheese, and not any particular credit to the Hokie offense.
Pick: Virginia Tech

Kent State (+21.5) at Boston College
Boston College looked strong, but admittedly against a lowly FCS team. Let's see if BC keeps looking strong against somewhat better competition.
Pick: Boston College

TCU (-11) at Virginia
Al Groh is done for.
Pick: TCU

Jacksonville State (N/A) at Florida State
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Pick: FSU

James Madison (N/A) at Maryland
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Pick: Maryland

Murray State (N/A) at NC State
Zzzzzzzzzzz
Pick: NC State

RE: Swagger's Slate
===== WEEK ONE

South Carolina (-3.5) @ NC State
It seems not even Darth Visor can lift the curse of Gamecock mediocrity. Unlike when they met last time, NC State has a QB. Worse still, a dual threat QB. UPSET SPECIAL!
Pick: NC State

Jacksonville State (N/A) @ Georgia Tech
Zzzzzzzzz
Pick: Georgia Tech

Northeastern (N/A) @ Boston College
Zzzzzzzzz
Pick: Boston College

Baylor (+1.5) @ Wake Forest
Baylor ... only 1.5 point dogs? In Winston Salem? With Jim Grobe coaching? The Big 12 has too much unearned respect.
Pick: Wake

Citadel (N/A) @ North Carolina
Zzzzzzzzz
Pick: UNC

Middle Tennessee (-18.5) @ Clemson
Poor Clemson. They get a spread offense that chunks it around then Paul Johnson's spread option five days later. Clemson has GT on their mind, and won't cover a spread that big.
Pick: Clemson*

William & Mary (N/A) @ Virginia
Virginia looks ugly, and struggles until the 4th quarter, when the sheer manpower difference between FBS and FCS becomes apparent, and the Hoos pull away.
Pick: Virginia

Richmond (N/A) @ Duke
This is Cutcliffe Dook, not Roof Dook.
Pick: Duke

Alabama (-6) @ Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech has no offense, and will be worn down over the course of the game by superior fronts, and by a defense that is never given adequate rest by a woeful offense. Bama by a bunch.
Pick: Alabama

Maryland (+21.5) @ California
The biggest improvement for the Terps has been in Ralph Friedgen's diet. The Fridge has dropped over 100 pounds. I'm sure he hopes his team makes similar improvements. Maryland likely won't win, but they're not bad enough to lose by more than 3 touchdowns.
Pick: California*

Monday:
Miami (+5.5) @ Florida State
Four words: Randy Shannon. Epic fail.
Pick: Florida State

Because UConn's defense is straight out filthy. In 2010, it may be the best defense in the country...tons of athleticism.
