OT - Dorms
I helped with freshman move in day today and had the pleasure of helping a few guys and gals move in to both centennial and governors hall. I was in awe of how nice and how huge these two dorms were. I mean both these dorms are decked out, which they should be considering you have to pay $2,000+ per semester just to stay in them. I began reflecting on the dorms I've stayed at over the past few years (Powell and Lucile Clement) and realized that neither centennial or governors had the putrid urine scent which I had become so used to in past dorms. I began to think that maybe these two dorms are nice enough that students will actually want to stay in them during the weekends, which might finally end the whole suitcase school phenomenon in which most all the students leave campus during the weekend to go home.

I'm interested to know what dorms you all stayed at back in the day and whether or not football was an incentive for students to stay on campus during the weekends.

RE: OT - Dorms
Luci and Powell are like the 4 Season compared to the zoo known as Mccord where I stayed my freshman year. It was a sad sad day when they tore that place down. All freshman should have to stay in a place like that IMO, makes you appreciate what you have later on. If you can survive a year at Mccord or Cooper you've actually accomplished something.

I personally think its insane that people chose to live in the new dorms, they cost more than Buc Ridge and they don't have all the perks. I realize freshman don't know any better and ETSU is more than happy to take advantage of that fact but I don't see how people do it.

The closet in my apartment I live in now was as big as my room in Frank Clement. When I moved to Powell hall, it was like living in a mansion.

I was born, raised and grew up about 2 miles from ETSU and it made it easy(and a lot cheaper) than living in a dorm but sometimes I missed the social aspects of living on campus.

RE: OT - Dorms
I watched the last two days these students moving into the new dorm. Never been inside, but I hope it has big rooms because the students sure were bringing lots of stuff!!

I too think that students should stay in less than ideal dorm situations, we tend to spoil college students. Thats why Ive never been concerned with parking. There is plenty of parking on campus, its just far from any of the buildings. God forbid people have to walk!!

Ellington. I had a single room and I felt crowded. :) I wouldn't change it though. I loved living off Ramen Noodles, not having air in the summer, and never learning how to change the heat during the winter. What is sad is that the new students will not get to experience walking with their friends from the dorm to the Dome to watch a Bucs football game.....
