you can't just be a physical freak by the grace of GOD? I bet Bolt is tested more than anyone in the sport.

apply occam's razor.
Either there is a freaky coincidence by which the 2 fastest male sprinters ever and 2 of the fastest female sprinters ever have been born at the same time all racing at their competitive peaks between 2008-2009 in an island nation with a population of 2.8 million and the 2 male sprinters have obliterated previous world records
or
They're doping.

That second one is sounding more and more realistic

I just find it sad that we can't have a great athlete nowadays without whispers of doping.

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor stands 6'6" and weighs 235 pounds.
He ran a 4.33 40 yard dash recently. What would he do against Bolt?

Open your eyes. There's no training technique that makes you that much faster than anyone else ever. And a lot of it coming out of one country . . .hmmmm . . .
Kind of an unnecessary judgment to pass on two people you have absolutely no knowledge of using any type of performance enhancing drugs. This is what bothers me about modern sports now, just because people start breaking records doesnt mean that they are automatically using something. I may eat these words one day but I wont accuse without any information.

In many ways Bolt's speed makes more sense then sprinters with shorter legs. Bolt has really long limbs, which means that if he is able to generate power through his hips and thighs he will probably leave people in the dust. He seems like a natural evolution, just like guys like Randy Moss, Eric Dickerson, Asafa Powell (the Jamaican that held the World record before Bolt), OJ Simpson, Carl Lewis, Vince Young, wing players in the NBA, etc. All of those guys that I mentioned are at or well above 6 feet tall, just like Bolt.
Moreover, animals like giraffes, ostriches, horses, cheetahs (they have long legs), show that longer limbs usually means greater speed. So it stands to reason, that taller guys are usually faster; which means eventually the best sprinters will be near 7 feet tall.

Albert Pujols... i don't hear much doping talk about him. In fact, was it him that said they could test him all they would like. Or something like that.
But you're right, it is VERY rare.

This is a confusing statement, BT. Can you clarify?
By my calculations, the next four Summer Olympics are 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Surely you don't mean that the London Summer Olympics will be 'the last one', do you?

London is the last one that NBC has. It is rumored that ESPN is going all out in their World Cup coverage next year as a "test run" for a future Olympics on ESPN

ESPN is going all out lately on their quest to run quality sporting events instead of recaps and breakdowns. This could be good, and very bad.

RE: The Bolt guy is a GOD
there's no proof. You have years worth of data showing it's nearly impossible for humans to run better than 9.9, and now it's routinely being broken, and substantially, shaving 0.2-0.3 seconds off a time. You need an explanation for that. For example, in swimming they're breaking records left and right because of swimsuit technology. The swimmers aren't necessarily boatloads faster than they were 20-30 years ago, they just have less drag.
Why are, all of a sudden, a bunch of jamaican sprinters so much faster than everyone esle?
If it was just Bolt, I'd be more accepting. But Bolt and Powell and stewart and fraser all at the same time? Come on

I am trying to get my mind around 9.58" and it is tough trying to grasp that concept. I ran against Tavious Jones (out of Germantown) in '05 as a senior and he ran something like a 10.2 or something in that region (can't remember the exact numbers). He beat my goofy-neandrathal looking 11.0 by a near second and it completely blew my mind....so 9.58? I can't even imagine, and yet he doesn't go all out all 100 mtrs!
