KARATSU, JAPAN-- Former Old Dominion University Sailing standout and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Anna Tunnicliffe-Funk ('05) finished third at the 2009 World Laser Women's Championships.

Sari Multala of Finland won the gold with 33 points, followed by Sophie de Turckheim of France with 42 for the silver and Tunnicliffe with 46 for the bronze. During the 12 total races, Tunnicliffe had three seconds, two thirds and two fourth place finishes, but had a 15th and a fourth in her final two races Sunday.

Multala scored six first places, while de Turckheim finished with a second and a third in her final two races. A total of 44 sailors competed in this world championship event.

Tunnicliffe captured the gold medal in last year's Olympic games for team USA in the Yngling class. The three-time Collegiate Sailing All-American and three-time ICSA Collegiate singlehanded National Champion was named the 2008 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year back in January
