EPjr,

Thank you for posting this info. Its interesting to see Austria and Japan continue to grow their programs. I'm starting to see some tiers develop w/ the US, and Canada obviously in Tier 1, with Japan, American Samoa, and Austria in Tier 2. I do understand that we aren't sending our best prospects to these tournaments either.

we don't need to
its about the men and women who want to make the sacrifice. I cannot see some of our pampered college players playing three games a week
BTW: a very good program decided to skip Austin this year - Mexico

For something different the Women IFAF have the world cup competition next year in Canada

In a way I'm glad Mexico skipped out. I skimmed through some of Panama's games and they improved a lot throughout the tournament. The better the world continues to get the better.

IFAF 2012 FLAG FOOTBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
[Image: Logo-2012-IFAF-FFWC.jpg?PHPSESSID=702a3d...f7c85c198b]

The sixth IFAF Flag Football World Championship kicks off in the Swedish city of Gothenburg on Thursday as 17 countries from four continents compete in men's and women's competitions during the four-day tournament.

The 2012 Men's tournament features 16 total teams split into two groups of 8 teams, based on seeding from previous events and newcomers added to each group from a random draw. 2010 champion USA heads a tough Group A also containing the nation that finished fourth last time around, Canada, and host nation Sweden. Group B features silver and bronze medalists from 2010 Denmark and Italy.

Find all the results and latest news from Gothenburg at the IFAF Facebook and Twitter pages.

http://iof1.idrottonline.se/SvenskaAmeri...pionships/

Teams will play a round-robin tournament on August 16 and 17 before the top two teams in each group contest the semi finals and then either the Gold or Bronze Medal games on August 19. Teams finishing lower in the group standings will play off for places 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16 on August 18. In observance of the Sabbath, Israel will play their games a day later if necessary.

The Women's tournament will crown a new champion since Canada will not defend its title. With the 12 nations split into two groups of six, silver medalist from 2010 USA heads Group A, while bronze medal winner Austria leads Group B. Brazil and Panama are both first time flag football entrants.

Teams will play a round-robin tournament on August 16 and 17 before the top two teams in each group contest the semi finals and then either the Gold or Bronze Medal games on August 19. Teams finishing lower in the group standings will play off for places 5-8 and 9-12 and on August 18. In observance of the Sabbath, Israel will play their games a day later if necessary.

AUSTRIA AND MEXICO WIN GOLD IN SWEDEN
[Image: 1281-388x230.jpg]

Austria and Mexico won goal at the 2012 IFAF Flag Football World Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Sunday as the United States were defeated in both the men's and women's finals.

Austria 47 USA 40
USA led Austria 13-0 and 19-7 and had the upper hand at halftime in the men's final, but the Austrians hit back, taking advantage of turnovers to score 19 unanswered points to lead 26-19. USA tied the score and with Austria a squad member down after an ejection due to illegal contact, looked to be about to defend the title won in 2010 in Canada.

The teams exchanged touchdowns and Austria led 33-32 after a failed USA extra point play then with two minutes remaining, after each team had scored again, USA tied the game at 40-40. Austria scored the final and decisive seven points and held out as the clock expired to claim a famous victory.

Mexico 33 USA 32 (OT)
Mexico opened the scoring, but USA hit straight back and the teams continued to exchange scores with Mexico taking the lead each time until the scores were tied at 20-20 and then at 26-26 as both sides failed to convert what would have been a game-winning extra point.

Mexico drove downfield in search of the win with less than a minute remaining, but USA forced overtime with an interception in the end zone as Mexico threatened to steal victory. The drama continued as USA also failed in a last second attempt to break the deadlock.

In overtime, both teams had an opportunity to possess the ball at midfield to score and USA put the pressure on Mexico with a touchdown to lead 32-26, but failed on the extra point conversion. Mexico was spectacular in reply as the first play from scrimmage went for a touchdown and the all-important one-point conversion pass sealed a 33-32 victory.

IFAF Senior World Championship (SWC)

The IFAF Senior World Championship is held every four years having first been contested in 1999 and is considered the showpiece IFAF competition. The fifth IFAF Senior World Championship will be held in Sweden in 2015.

The United States is the reigning back-to-back senior world champions (2009 and 2011). Japan has also twice lifted the world crown in 1999 and 2003.

IFAF Women's World Championship (WWC)

In July 2009 IFAF announced plans for Sweden to host the inaugural tackle competition for women, furthering opportunities for female participation in the sport at its highest level. Six nations competed in Stockholm, with the United States winning their first crown.

The IFAF WWC will be played on a four-year rotation basis with the 2013 contest taking place in New Brunswick, Canada.

IFAF U-19 World Championship (U-19WC)

The inaugural IFAF U-19 World Championship was one of the most significant international football events in the 11-year history of IFAF. The event introduced the sophistication of international football development to millions of U.S. football fans and increased awareness of American football internationally. More than 40,000 fans attended the three game days at Fawcett Stadium as eight nations from four continents competed at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The United States was the inaugural champion of the event.

IFAF U-19 World Championship tournaments will be played every two years. This year's 2012 contest was in Austin, TX.

If American Football became an Olympic sport ... my heavens.

You could assemble a dream team that would rival the original dream team .... and they'd probably be even more dominant.

I am fascinated this league even exists since the WLAF and NFLE both went out of business in predominantly European markets. Granted the overseas NFL games have done well.

And, what I find most odd, is that Women overseas can generate a league for this yet here in the country it was born in can't.

Don't even need to assemble a "dream team". Probably can use 2nd and 3rd string NFL players and it would dominate the world scene. The world is getting better tho.

There are some semi-pro women's leagues. I know Pittsburgh has the "Passion". I'm unsure how popular an NFL equivalent league for women would generate.
