RE: Iverson wants to play for Grizzlies
Jason Kidd is signing a three year deal the Mavs...and he is getting old, slow, and his shot is getting even worse...

Iverson is better than Kidd at this point in my opinion. I admit, I used to really dislike Iverson when he was younger, but I have seen a new Iverson in the last couple of years that is getting more mature (finally, right?..ha).

I think the Griz should start Iverson and develop Conley as a solid back-up point with a chance to start in the future once Iverson leaves/retires or after we trade him.

RE: Iverson wants to play for Grizzlies
the grizz need to win to regain some relevance. i say definitely bring him in. if there were enough balls on the court for garnett/allen/pierce/rondo then there will be enough for the grizz players. if conley loses some PT because of it, so be it. playing 40+ minutes a game and losing doesnt necessarily add to player development. rudy has been playing and losing, and beyond the jump from year 1 to 2, he hasnt been developing by leaps and bounds. look at the playoff teams this year.. only chicago was youth-laden and even they required a core of vets to take them to the next level. randolph + AI + the returning players will win 40+ games (if hollins can coach).

RE: Iverson wants to play for Grizzlies
I haven't seen anyone ask this question (not trying to be Debbie Downer, but...):

Most veterans like AI, at this point is their careers want to sign on to get a ring. No one is fooling themselves into thinking the Griz are anywhere near a championship contender. So, why would a guy of his stature want to come joing a youth movement and rebuilding project and sit behind young and developing guys? He didn't want to do it on a better team in Detroit, so why here?

As far as bringing him here - look at Denver last year - with AI, then with Billups. Um...which was the better team and by far? AI has always been a shooting guard in a point guard's body. I always hated the 'tude, but I loved how the guy just competed and fought and played hurt (wouldn't practice, but would play hurt). I don't think he is a good fit here, at all. I don't think Randolph is either, but Randolph is 28, and could use a positive locker room - not the Portland one with 'Sheed and D. Miles, not the Bricks of the last 3 years, and certainly not of the Clips. So, I at least see some upside in Z-Bo, but I am skeptical. I see nothing good bringing AI here. He needs to play for a contender who needs one more piece who can put the ball in the net.

I don't know, why don't you try asking Iverson? After all, it was his people who initiated contact with Memphis, not the other way around.

Sounds to me that he know that Grizz have money to spend and he wants to get a piece of it! No expectations....just money!

RE: Iverson wants to play for Grizzlies
Yeah well Iverson happy with a fat deal of money in Memphis is still a better option at PG than Mike Conley and a 20 win season. He will take pressure off Mayo and Gay to always be the go-to guys when we need a basket. Spread the ball around the court. Signing Iverson will give the team VERY good depth at pretty much every position and 2 veteran players (Iverson and Randolph) who know how to SCORE. So at the very least... the Grizz will have butts in the seats at FedExForum, a renewed interest in the team, and possibly a 40+ win season.

Did you read the article about the Grizz's pick, DeMarre Carroll? You should.

There are some quality guys in the league. Iverson isn't one of them. I don't want our young team to be influenced by him and his attitude.

I say get him. Either way, it will be fun to bring the thread back this time next year.

I would love to - would love to understand the motivation. You usually see guys in their mid to late 30's only want to play for a contender and try to win a ring before they hang it up. Iverson just doesn't strike me as a guy who wants to be part of a youth movement.

To me, we don't need a shoot first point guard who has had a questionable past on this team. One potential malcontent is enough.

Iverson said he would rather retire than come off the bench this past season.

I'm not sure that's the case. Curry couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to bring AI off the bench or Hamilton. THAT was the biggest problem for him last season. This ultimately lead to Curry's being out of a job. If he knows on the front end that he's not going to start, then this should not be a problem. Bring him in.

I am not sure of the exact motivation of him wanting to play for the Grizzlies, but I do know he has ties here in Memphis. During the offseason he spends a lot of his time here.

you know, as much as I am skeptical of both Z-Bo and AI, no doubt it is a talent upgrade and should be a lot more exciting to watch next year if nothing else...

RE: Iverson wants to play for Grizzlies
I am wondering why there is such a low market for AI's services, there was more of a market for Marbury which I think is disappointing. I say sign him for a guy who averaged 19ppg last year its worth the risk. It would be nice to see all of the Memphis jerseys around town again its been a while. LOL

They are about to talk about Iverson on PTI. Hmmm, let me guess! They are going to laugh at Memphis and completely pity Iverson for considering Memphis...
