RE: Men's Hoops: 2009-10 Non-Conference Opponents
I agree with you about Byrd. Wicke is gone. I would also say that Mercer had them beat in the tournament last year too and Belmont slipped by them with a miracle. Belmont is one of the luckiest teams I've ever seen. They are just lucky. The ball bounces their way at crucial moments.

Sorry to butt in.... but:
"Luck is the residue of design." Branch Rickey
"The harder I work, the luckier I get." Sam Goldwyn
I always thought that the luckiest damn sports teams (see Belichik's New England Patriots, who I don't even like) also tended to be the smartest and the hardest working. Byrd's the best coach in this little corner of the basketball world. Not surprising that he can control the end of games better than any of his competitors.
I'll leave now.

Hey I'm not disagreeing with you about hardwork being the gateway to luck. I'm not taking away anything from Belmont when I comment on their luck. It's just an observation that the ball did bounce their way in that Mercer game. If it had bounced to the other side of the rim Mercer would have gotten the win. But hey...that's life.
