Reggie Theus Leading Candidate At USC
http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/ba...7465.story

There is probably a large group of Tigers fans who like the guy considering a lot of us wanted him as the next HC before hiring Pastner.

I wouldnt trade that hire at all, but I hope Theus can turn USC around and keep some of the top West Coast recruits away from UCLA.

Theus is going to be a legend wherever he goes. I'm happy with Pastner though.

Wasn't Theus also on a Saturday morning TV show called "HangTime" as a role as a head Coach on NBC in the 1990's. I seem to recall that as well, he did that after his NBA playing career ended and didn't he also do color commentary or play-by-play for some NBA team, as I recall? I don't remember for what team before he become a assistant head coach or a head coach for a NBA team?

Before Pastner, I liked Theus. But no matter how well Theus does next year, I would not trade him for Pastner...ever.

Theus was head coach of the New Mexico State Aggies in 2005, and he was also hired by the Sacramento Kings in the year 2007, before becoming now one ot the candidates for the USC head coaching basketball jobs. Does anyone remember why he left the Aggies? Was Reggie Theus fired from New Mexico State or did he take the NBA job and left the Aggies?

He left for the NBA. The man completely turned around a nothing program into an NCAA team after one season.

The school is in the dumps and needs a good head coach ,and the head coach needs a good chance after not suceeding in the NBA. Does this marriage of the school and the coach (if it happens) not remind any of you of our situation (minus possible sanctions for USC) before Coach Calipari came to Memphis?

That was the reason I wanted him. Even had the whole part of taking a nothing school and turning them into something in a short period of time before jolting to the NBA thing going for it. Oh well, I'm very happy with Josh so far.

That too.

He recruited California very well when at Louisville, hopefully he can keep some of those recruits out there, because Kentucky has historically made their attempts in California to recruit.

No, I was saying the program was in worse shape to get recruits since Dana Kirk resigned becaue of tax evasion issues. Then Larry Finch took over as Head Basketball Coach of the University of Memphis Tigers. The Tic Price era with the University of Memphis student, was the coach before Coach Cal came here to Memphis. We needed to repair our image, and he needed to help his image with him being fired from the New Jersey Nets. When we hired him, it was a great match for the school and the coach.

RE: Reggie Theus Leading Candidate At USC
I dunno, sounds like Theus has more hc experience than Pastner. As in some. Pastner has a tremendous personality and is clearly hardworking, but it's a bigger risk with possibly a bigger upside with Pastner. It's probably a better fit at the time b/c with our recent obsession with ranked prospects, Pastner is a better candidate to minimize demoralization of that base.
