Low Beer Tax States = More Breweries
Tax something and get less of it...

Quote: don't want to identify the direction of causality here, but it is striking to look at the difference among the categories of taxation and see how many breweries they have per-capita. Within these categories, there's one brewery for every:

Low tax states: 164,728 people
Med tax states: 198,331 people
High tax states: 366,526 people
National average: 204,906 people
So medium-tax states are have about as many breweries per-capita as the national average. But low-tax states have 2.2 times more breweries per-capita than high-tax states.

That's a bit of an over-simplification. Many of the states with high taxes (the deep South and UT) have also had absurd laws restricting ABV and container size. Many craft breweries specialize in creating beers with higher alcohol content that are often sold in 22 oz. or 750 ml bottles.

High Alchol content beer is still illegal in some parts

either way, I guess the point is placing restrictions on it(taxes, container size, Alcohol %, etc.) leads to less Breweries.

In some states they tax and classify the highter alcohol content beer not as "beer" but as "malt liquor"

So when they they say that "beer" is below a certain level, look for the other classifications.
